Who's Running Nexen N3000's?

Anyone running these on their AU in 245/45/17?

I want to know if they're quiet enough and what grip I can expect wet and dry.

I'm thinking about them for the S2 Tickford rims on the SR.

What price have people paid? Where have you purchased them from?

Hi mate, they are the ones on my AUII Fairlane. Nexxen 3000 245/35 ZR19 93Y.

I insisted on them because they were the only ones the wheel place had that were silica, as my old hankook K104's were as well. I found the K104's to be excellent but I find these ones are even better.

It may just be the larger wheel size but in the wet and dry they appear to be a lot better at picking up traction from high-throttle starts than the K104's did.

I got them with the wheels from a place up in Benalla but they were not balanced correctly so I wouldn't recommend them again.

Not getting much feedback here George. Sorry I can't give an opinion on these treads as well. Never heard of the brand to be honest. What I can tell you is that I got nearly 60K out of my Dunlop SP3000s with the same dimensions. Great tyre, which Ford use on their wheel packages, but starting to get pricey. Been told Falzen (not sure on spelling) are worth considering (from Tyrepower) and they're $75 cheaper a tyre.

Im using N3000's, 235/45 17's. I will give my opinion, and it is not biased, and I dont want to cut anyone down, and I expect the same in return.
They are reallyy slippery. In the dry, at a set of lights if I plant my foot down, and remember I have barely any power or mods, a 3.23:1 diff, and a single spinner, and it will go sideways.
Going around interesections in 2ND gear, putting my foot down not enough to kick it into first, at 40k's an hour, and it starts to slide.
And these are with about 10000k's on them.
In the wet, they are pretty bad as well. I actually want to get new tyres on as I fear for my safety on the road.
They did however seem quite good when I first got them, but now after a couple of months, Im starting to not like them at all.
Just my 2c's. If anyone has a reccomendation for a cheap 17 incher can you pm me please.

agree with ya there mate. it has to be really wet (like whats sydneys had for the last 2 weeks) to have any grip in the dry there ok.
i currently have maxis mav1's, they're great in dry and greasy conditions but heavy rain they start loosing grip.

i agree with JC the Nankangs are absolutley fantastic in wet or dry. and nt too exensive either.

I've got the Nexen's on my car, had them on when i got it.
They were brand new (still had stickers on tread). And i've never found them
to be good in the wet, How ever in the dry there not too bad at all.
But i suppose there pretty good for a Korean tyre.

I've got 20" nexens on my ba, i'd pay extra for better rubber if i were you. I had 19" nankang NS2's on my AU and found them crap in the wet too.

when i bought the EF it had these tyres-"KINGSTAR" yes that is a brand of tyre!
just the standard 205/65/15 they were brand new. these things were shocking, wet,dry even just getting out of my driveway. i drove on them for about 500ks and i thought "thats it im pis*ing these things off"..... they were that bad in the wet, you had to use the handbrake to brake the wheels so you could just take off normally... i replaced them with a set of dunlop 300e sports $120 each and they are brilliant! iv had them for 25,000ks and buy looking at them i should get at least another 20000, best tyre iv had

Have you actually tried the Nankang NS2 UltraSports? Have you tried the Nexen N3000s? I have tried both, and the Nankangs are a far better tyre overall. Good in the wet, good in the dry, good for road noise. These tyres are going on a fire breathing LPG powered AU I6, so if GK drives sensibly, they will be fine.

I drove through torrential rain with around 4 inches of water on the road in Coffs on the way up to Qld in Feb, and was able to do a nice safe 80km/h in the 100 zone, where most other cars were down to about 40. The Nankangs, while not the best tyre on the market, do a great job for the price, and are better than a lor of more expensive tyres.

ahhh the old Kingstars, I bought 2 of them just to sell the car with, had them on the back for about 2 hours before I took them off and put some decent tyres on. Scariest tyres I have ever used, and you would think theyd be illegal, it'd be a death wish driving on them in the wet.

Apparently they are a (much) cheaper version of Hankooks.

Not sure on the Nexens but the Nankang NSII's are a pretty good tyre. I have them on the back of my XR in a 245/40/18 and they hang on really well in the wet and dry. I actually feel that they do a better job than my old Dunlop SP9000's ever did. For Nankangs in 235/45/17 I'd expect to pay about the $150 mark each maybe less.

My Nexxens are barely a few thousand kms old and I paid about $250 each for 19s. I hope they don't end up being like Monty has mentioned.

also stay away from "FIRENZA" its some cheap *** tyre that bob jane sell... my mum had the on her commodore 235/45/17 and they were bad, i took it for a drive one day in the rain and tried to pull up at a stop sign............ eg TRIED...........................

I have just fitted Hankook H405 to my AUII XR8 and the tyres are great in the wet. Can only get them to spin with full throttle in the wet. I got them for $135 a tyre.

Much quieter than the Silverstone FTZ that were on the car when I got it.

Hi George, The SPs aren't that noisy in my opinion (and my inners haven't been deadened either - one day). They are more expensive though. If you can get 'em around $225-230 you're doing good. That's for 235×45×17. Do consider that I find them a good wearing tyre.

Got to agree with JC. I had Nexens on the ute (rears, 265x35x18) they weren't bad. Now I have Nankangs all round on the Fairmont on 235x40x18 and they very good for the price. I paid $190 each but I know you can get them for $146. I drove around Sydney last weekend through heaps of water on freeways, back roads and suburban roads. They were good in the wet and very good in the dry. The tyre noise is barely noticable (could be due to my new exhaust and stereo).

I have a few more for the equation. /Quoted price on NS2's is $125

Hankook H405's are $135 and K107's are $145.

What are your experiences on these tyres? Previous comment already noted, cheers.

The Hankooks are silica aren't they? They are supposed to be good gripping and quiet also.

I think I'll take the SP3000's off my list, I had a set (2nd hand in all fairness) that tramlined really bad. Quite unsettling on the family wagon for sure!

JC, IIRC, you've tried the 405's have you not? Or was it the 107's? If so, you'd be in a good place to compare them.

I dont mean to be rude or anything, but tyre's are the only part of the car that touches the road, so i don't understand how people can contemplate bugeting on them! I would think you would want to get the best possible tyre for safety sake if nothing else. I would recomend that if you were to spend a bit extra on anything on the car, it would be whats keeping you on the road. I know i sound like a bit of a granny now, but thats just my opinion.
I have a set of Pirelli P6's on my car. I had them fitted a matter of days after i purchased the car and only now are they staring to get close to worn, thats just over 2 years. They still grip like no bodies busness, wet or dry. They did cost me $250 a corner, but they are more than worth it.

Fair enough but when it comes to tyres it's not always a matter of you get what you pay for. I'v ehad tyres that cost big $$$ (Michelin Pilots) that were no better than some of the cheaper ones going around today.

This reply may sound rude Evan, but it's in no way intended to be taken as such.

Tyres are very important. That's a given.

Here's the question though. Why pay for the grippiest rubber if the car is never driven in that manner? I bet that there are many who have overspent on rubber for driving styles that in no way need such investment.

I'll put my flamesuit on now, but I honestly believe that many people buy very expensive tyres for peace of mind and not much else. Perhaps also to be able to say what brand tyre they've got and what price they paid.

If the car's driven hard then you need a great tyre for that purpose. I don't believe though that I must put the best tyres money can buy on my cars that won't ever explore the extra benefits and capacity of such tyres.

Also, I think that it's also important to understand that because a tyre is stacks more expensive than another, it doesn't neccessarily make it stacks better.

I understand the need for good tyres, I do ride a motorbike after all. I have much grippier tyres on my VFR800 than my best mate does on his VFR750. Similiar bikes, similar power, very different ways of being ridden. My tyres on his bike would be a waste of money and that's I guess the overall point here.

I hope my point is made, as I've tried to explain clearly what I mean.

I do appreciate the dialogue taking place here though! As I've said many times, I love this forum!

g'day guys.

here is my opinion....on both the nexen and nankang tyres.

nexen are far better, why.....i have had many sets of both nankang and nexen tyres over the last few years, sometimes even mixed combinations from front to rear of Nankangs Ultra Sport NS2's and the Nexen 3000's.

nexen are noisier, although have far better grip in the wet and wear fairly even if driven hard.
nankang are slippery in the dry and are very suseptable to uneven wear if driven hard.

I have used them for city, country and heavy towing applications continuously over many years.

I would choose the Nexen for a good all round tyre.

Yep - Linglongs should be illegal in this day and age, I am about to change a new set on my car for something grippier, really for safety's sake as the wife now drives my Fairmont.
