Default 2007 AUFalcon BBQ Day @ Hanging Rock Reserve for VIC / TAS / SA / NSW and ACT

: Well , Its On again Ladies and Gents:
: SUNDAY 21st October 2007 :

After Debate on location and timing , we have set plans in motion to hold this years BBQ Day at Hanging Rock. This is Partly to draw Attraction to our Friends in the NSW , ACT and SA Areas who would find it difficult coming right into Melbourne .

NSW Drivers
Calculated from Kings Cross in Sydney ( Didnt Know any Street Names , Sorry ) , Travel 892.57 km, Est. Time 9 hours 32 mins

SA Drivers
From Rundle Mall , in Adelaide ,Travel 710.92 km, Est. Time 7 hours 51 mins

ACT Drivers
From Canberra , Travel 677.81 km, Est. Time 7 hours 23 mins

VIC Drivers
Following the Calder FWY , will see you there about 1hr after the Calder-Tulla Intersection , Straight up the Calder and its simple from there , check the map.

Said to be the best example of a volcanic plug or mamelon in the world. It consists mainly of soda trachyte rock (solvsbergite), found only outside this district in Norway and Sweden. Since its formation, the mamelon has been exposed to considerable weathering and erosion, resulting in a conglomeration of unusual rock formations that can now be seen on the site.

Hanging Rock is located in a rural setting approximately 80km (1 hour) to the north of Melbourne. It is easily accessed from the A79 Calder Freeway which passes by on the eastern side of Woodend. You can also access the Rock via Mt Macedon or from the M31 Hume Highway by turning off at Kilmore and travelling through Lancefield, or alternatively from Wallan via Romsey.

Using WhereIs.com.au , Its Cal

In the next few Weeks , plans and actions will be set in motion , to let the AUFalcon.Com Members all know about the day , and what will be on the Agenda for one of our Biggest Days of our Clubs Year.

We Will be looking at making this a 'Family Friendly' day , keeping in mind , that not everyone is single and people do have Children , Husbands and Wives to look after

So Pencil this Day into your Notebooks , or Get the time off work now , because this is going to be a great oppourtunity to meet some new faces and get to know the people you talk to on www.fordforums.com.au

Any Queries , Suggestions , or Anyone wishing to put Ideas or Helping out with the day , please either PM Me (AU2PWR) , or GK (George is a Top bloke and is already on the Hunt for ideas !)

Also , in the next few weeks , a List will be Created for AUFalcon Members who can add their name , purely for Organisational purposes only .

Cheers

Daniel - AU2PWR

We're off and running fellow AUvians!

Let's get behind this event and make it something special.

We're not taking ideas for another location or date, unless something drastic happens. Daniel and myself know only too well that you can't please everyone all of the time, or even most people most of the time.

Some of you won't be able to make that date, some of you won't like the location. This would be true of any date and place.

Daniel and myself will travel there to scope out the joint properly sometime soon. I have a work collegue who lives in Woodend so he's in the know about what we can and can't do.

Cheers, and watch this space!

OK, I'll definitely see what I can do to make it. Would be great to meet some fellow forumers and see their cars "in person" rather than just in pics!

Thinking here that if the Adelaide people wanted to meet up in Adelaide somewhere Saturday morning and spend Saturday driving over in convoy I'd be happy to be part of that.

I can tell you they have great parking, do a great feed, plenty of room on the grass etc to set up and a great info / touristy section all about the rock and what happened there.

Good climbing shoes are a must, not sure where the neaerest accom is for interstaters, mt macedin ( S) has some cabins but were crap from reports but may have changed and i'm not sure there is any accom in Woodend.

but a good spot and call for a great day. for South aussies it should be an easy drive, but would allow a bit longer on the road for stops n kids but all up id say no longer than 8 hours, i used to do melbourne / adelaide in 7H30M.

Well , I Spoke to the Regional Manager for Best Western today , and looks like we could probably drop the Room Rate (Double Bed) that was Orginally $135 a Night , to $95 a night ! .. Awesome Savings ..

Things Organised like this now is going to clear time in the end.

Last year we went through about 15 loaves of bread and about 6kg of sauce. I recommend 4kg of tomato and 2kg of BBQ. Bread was easy enough, I just filled a shopping trolley at Safeway that morning : Picked up 2kg of onions at the same time.
The other thing is to get cans of softdrink, I think we went through 5 or 6 slabs.
