Default Serpentine belt

g'day all,

Im currently replacing the alternator on my AU III XR6 VCT & have encountered a problem putting the serpentine belt back on. Im not sure how to loosen it & am having great difficulty trying to finish the job.

Any help would be much appreciated.

just use your hand and pull it up .

I find it easier to slide it off the water pump.
and when putting it back on I put it on the power steering pulley last.

Stand at the drivers side grab the belt and lift up

The tensioner has a square 3/8 hole for fitting a ratchet or breaker bar to release tension on the belt for removal and refitting. It's also easier to remove the cooling fans.

spot on ... cooling fans are not neccesary to remove, i have found a pipe extension on the breaker bar makes the job easier

I just pulled on the belt until the 3/8 hole in the tensioner lined up and slid a drill bit into it. Replace the belt (a bit fiddly) and then reverse the procedure. No tools necessary!
