Default TS50 rear wing or XR Series 3 spoiler?

Hi all.

I have decided to have some fun with mu AU XR series 3 sedan and spice it up a bit. I am going to put the XR50 kit on it with bonnet bulge silver bonnet decal. The car will be getting resprayed blueprint.

I am stuck on whether to go with the TS50 rear wing or series 3 XR spoiler. Not being a fan of big spoilers i was originally going to just go the series 3 spoiler. But the more i look at Pics of the TS50 I am worried that without the wing it might look like it is missing something. Oh and i have to replace my current spoiler due to damage.

I know its up to me and i am the one who should be happy with what the car looks like but just after some thoughts and perhaps if anyone has photos of both a xr with an xr50 kit - with the ts50 rear wing and also the same with the series 3 xr spoiler. even better would be if the car in the photo would be blueprint. But any pics would do. Its just hard to visualize it in my head.

Oh one more thing. Also whats the thoughts of the carbonfibre bonnet with bulge with silver decal. Looks great on Micks (Bluprnt) ute but what about on a sedan?

Carbon fibre bonnet on a blueprint XR50 kitted falcon looks great, sedan or ute.
As for the wing, personally I prefer none with this kit.

Go the TE bobtail, that way it's a bit different to all the XR's out there, and it's not a big spoiler since you're not a fan of those. I'm biased though, you can check out my car to see the spoiler I mean if you don't know it.

The large rear wing came standard on T3's. The T3's also had other spoilers as NCO (No Cost Option) These were the XR spolier, and the bobtail. I have seen one with the XR spolier, and looks OK, and one with the bob-tail and it looks great (and yes, it is a genuine T3 TS50). Oh, and it's silver.

If you're changing colour from silver, why go blueprint? There are so many nice colours out there, and blueprint, while nice, is used on so many cars, it's hardly custom. What I'm getting at, is that if you are going to the trouble and expense of changing the colour of the car, why not go with a colour not offered on the AU range - something like Shockwave, or ego, or envy etc? Then it will be an AU with a noticeable difference.

i'd go the bobtail it doesn't stand out and i reckon it draws more attention to how chunky that rear bar looks

No. There are 2 bobtails. One that is known as the "Classic" bobtail (because it first came out on the falcon classic). It bolts up to both spoiler holes in the boot. The Tseries bobtail is a different shape and only requires the rearmost bolt hole to be used.

I always thought it was just a case of series one bobtail (on that Au classic) and series two bobtail (on the TS) didnt know the second bobtail started life as a Tickford accessory.

If I've understood you properly, a TS/Series 2 bobtail will bolt straight onto my boot if I pull the XR spoiler off?

No - I think you'd have to fill the front hole, but the classic one would fill the holes nicely.

Having seen both setups in the flesh that being AUII/III XR with T3 skirts, rear bar and existing rear wing and full kit with T3 rear wing, it would look ok with the XR rear wing, but it would really be asking for a full T3 wing to complete the package.

Fitting a bobtail bootlid is a bit of a visual 'oxymoron' for want of sorts of a term - you have full on chunky skirts with a conservative tail. In my humble opinion it doesn't work, but that's just me.

So what is the wing I have on the back of mine then? It came as an option on the Series 2 Futura Classic I believe, but is it a Tickford wing? It looks almost exactly like the TS style one to me. Either way, it is my favorite style of wing, and have always wanted to get a T3 kit to go with it.

That is what's known as the TS bobtail. It's only called that to differentiate it from the "Classic" bobtail that came on the AU1 classics. If they were both called Classic bobtails, no-one would know what anyone was talking about. So it's a Ford item, not a tickford item, but has a tickford name (colloquially).

To my knowledge there's actually 3 different spoilers, there's the 'Classics', both series 1 and 2:

S1

S2

And the Tickford one:

There's only subtle differences between the Classic 2 and the Tickford one, but they're definitely different. The TE one sort of lines up more flush with the rear face of the bootlid, if that makes sense.

Interestingly, there was a T2 for sale on carsales a while back with a classic spoiler on it...

Probs because the classics cover the 4 bolt holes the XR spoilers leave (which T2's often had) so the owner put it on rather than getting a new boot lid. The 'real' TE/TS bobtails only use 2 bolt holes. Also might have been that he priced up one from Ford (TE ones were ~$1200!).
Cheers, Matt.

This sounds all too confusing to me! :P All I know is that my car is a "Classic" and it came with that wing on it. I don't really care where it came from I guess, it looks awesome! I can take a photo of the under side of the boot lid to show the bolts if anyone is interested? I can do this tonight when I get home from work.

Surely not? Two slightly different spoilers that look exactly the same to the naked eye?

That grey AU Series 3 XR8 looks amazing. the wing and the rims make it look real mean. Its making me think of changing my spoiler to a Classic Series 1.

Yep that grey XR8 looks awesome, Id have to see more shots (side on etc) to convince me tho, as the same wing on the silver AU1 looks pretty crook.
Although the S1 wing gels a little better than the others.

So which S2 wing does AWC sell, the 'classic' or the 'Tickford'?

You know what, I could swear both wings are exactly the same, just mounted differently. The only difference I can see by looking at the above photos is that the "Tickford" boot has the wing mounted further back.

By looking at the two I would have thought that to be the case also.

I love the LARGE TE50 Wing, looks hot on a car kitted up, but at the same time I dont think I would put one on mine. You need the mumbo-jumbo under the bonnet to warrant one (which i lack at this stage). but i would keep mine, which should be similar or same as XR wing (I think)
