I needed to have a few things replaced (not a rebuild) like some gaskets and seals, and the box is still going strong and smooth after 260K this is a s1

My TE50 has just done 70,000klms and reverse has died in the auto. Didn't bother fixing it as i have sold the car to a mate who's putting a manual box in. Why did it fail?? who know's, it has had a reasonably hard life though. Would of expected the forward gears to have failed first.

Going great at 250 000, mums rebuilt at 240 000.
Mine gets thrashed though, drag nights, skid pans, compression lock ups, manual shifting for the last 100 000 k's with no trans cooler (got one in last sunday) and one service (just had the second since 157 000) and a full flush. I have no idea why mine is still alive.

My AU2 SR wagons got about 246000ks orignal box,My car has towed a few car trailers as well,,had abit of a scare this week, but it turned out to be low fluid, fitted external cooler,
Just talk to taxi drivers 500,000+ and still going isnt uncommon. They should be serviced regularly. Thats my goal for the SR box anyway!!!!!!

I bought mine with 150k on the clock, still on it's original tranny oil from the looks of things!
Was a bit sloppy and loose, with some laggy shifts from the day we bought it, gave it a service, didn't get any better, and it's done about 50k more now on low fluid (nice leak) and is still going strong. I haven't bothered doing anything about it as I've got a built auto waiting for it, but the damn thing doesn't wanna die!

178,xxxkm and still going strong. Temperature is the main destroyer of these boxes so regular fluid changes and a cooler is recommended to prolong the life of the auto.

I just got mine replaced and I've just ticked over 300 000k's. It hadn't been serviced for about 150 000 of those k's. They do the job, and can last a long time if you take it easy.

Had mine replaced with a rebuilt/strengthened item at 190,000km ... although the first 109,000km of it's life was spent as a council vehicle ... so not sure on the life of it during that time.
I am now up ato 277,000 (87,000km of life on the new box) and it is running like it is new ... and it gets loaded up and driven like a manual a bit ... but I don't abuse it. The key things to the long life of the BTR auto. 1) don't abuse it 2) run a decent external auto trans cooler 3) replace your radiator with something aother than alloy 4) service it regularly ... I do mine every 20,000km for piece of mind (as a courier 20,000km is hard city work)

125000, and the auto died in my wagon. Replaced it with a rebuilt one (including fitting a dipstick out of an EF), fitted a external tranny cooler, and no issues at 154000.

1999 Series 1, no dramas as of yet. I recently got a full flush.. oil looked like engine oil apparently (Ask mechanik) I have bought an external tranny cooler, but haven't had time to fit it as of yet (Have had it for about 3 months!) Want to get that fitted up during my hols (start next week! YAY!) So yeh... no complaints here

Mine has 169,000km, I bought it at 156,000km. I had it serviced 6-8k km ago if I recall correctly.
It seems decent enough. There is a strange metalic rattle that matches the engine revs when I'm stopped and in gear and occasionally when in ECON and going up a slight incline it will bang down a gear and you will notice a thump. Perfectly fine otherwise.. Knock on wood. The auto in my Camry went at 215,000km and I had to fork out more than half what the car was worth to replace the auto with a pathetic second hand one that only 18 months later is showing some problems. Not my car anymore though, I sold it to the parents for HALF what I paid for the replacement auto only 6 months later. That all said, I really hope I don't get auto problems with the falcon for a long while! Matt. |
