Car is at the exhaust place as I type. Cut a long story short, Pacemaker 4480's or 4499's wont fit due to lpg converter being in the way.
Possible options to make it work are: 1. Move the converter to sit flat on top of rocker cover. 2. Remove LPG system altogether and stick with petrol. (not gonna happen) 3. Forget about extractors or any other mods as its too hard. 4. Remove AU header tank and replace with BA header tank and associated hosing to make more room on the shocker tower for the converter to be shifted up and forward. I know Mechan1k has done option 4 to make his extractors fit. But I dont have any pics of seeing how this mod will look. Based on his AU build thread, he mentions the use of a lower radiator hose from the header tank to radiator and also the smaller diameter longer length hose from the top of the radiator to be a longer length than the current AU one to avoid stretching. Anyone done this mod or has advice? Pics? *waits for Mechan1k to log on and offer advice* EDIT: There could be another way. I could remove the converter, turn off the gas lines, get the exhaust place to fit the extractors with the heat shield and THEN refit the converter after. A better idea???

Well I am actually a n00b with the new stuff, but I was under the impression that it gets directly injected so there is no converter like the old ones.....
But again, Im yet to do any research as such. :

And if you are looking for a bit of power keep in mind liquid is the same, if not a tad better than petrol results.
So while yes it will be more initially, you should get more power and be more efficient than before. I think the systems are around the $3k mark

Shav...
I got the 4480's to fit my old ute. I took it to a gas place and said to them that I was fitting extractors and that the number 3 & 4 pipes were going to foul on the converter and I wanted it moved. At first they were a little hesistant but then said where did I want it moved? I said to them that's there's plenty of room in front of the 1 & 2 pipes and it could be moved there. In the end they moved it backwards towards the 5 & 6 pipes and up. 4480's fit fine and I never had an issue with the header tank. 4499's were meant to fit with E-Gas and dual fuel cars. What happened there? Kenny

Just get a LPG installer who is confident enough to make it fit. Dosent seem like a huge job to do that.

Did any lines have to be cut when you relocated the unit? Do you have any pics?

thanks bodes-sh. your converter is much much smaller than mine. I have a bigger unit for my car. Gonna look at getting it moved back closer to the firewall in the morning.

You can give me the extractors
Do you have a BA header tank to trial fit? as that option might be the only one to look at for now...

Im thinking of maybe disconnecting the gas system for a while, removing the converter, fitting the extractors and relocating the converter after in the best area once the extractors are fitted. Good idea?

Well ... that's a Viale converter for sure ... but looks fatter than a factory dedicated one.
Yours has the extra heatshield as well ... you actually don't need that shield there ... my factory dedicated converter never had one ... and i just used my standard exhaust manifold heatshield to cover my extractors anyway. I found in the end mine 4499's fitted .. just ... without needing to move the factory EGAS converter ... it was a tight squeeze ... but it fitted ... with the exhaust heatshield in place.

Oh ... BA header tank looked so much neater than the AU one ... and it was cheap ... and crystal clean as well (remained like it too even after 150,000km).

Thanks Simon.
Will be getting a gas installers honest opinion of the situation either today or tomorrow. That is the biggest converter I have seen in my history of having lpg cars. I think even with the converter heat shield off its still an uphill battle. Might need to look at the viable expense of fitting a smaller unit that still gives plenty of flow.

Looking at getting a set of Extractors myself. would it be possible to get a measurement of the Pacie 4499's from the exhaust manifold to the furthest pipe so i can see if they'll fit without having to get my converter moved
Thanks John |

Id say by just matching up those 2 photo's that the converter needs to be relocated toward the front and lower. Almost sitting under the power steering pump to give sufficient clearance. With mine, thats the only spot I can see it even remotely looking like it could work. But Id need to remove that heat sheild from the converter as well as the heat shield from the exhaust manifold. I cant get my car looked at by the gas guy till next week, so Im better off concentrating on other things till then. No point worrying about it. I need to sort some trans stuff out in the mean time.
