Um well when I was living at home I accumulated about 30 litres of old oil in 5 litre bottles... I ended up taking it to the local dump which had a disposal area for used engine oil.

Nowadays... well I'm storing it up again, I live in Brisbane now which means I have to pay to use the dump .

If you have a timber fence, pouring on the ground just where the fence posts are prevents rot and termites from attacking it.
On that subject many years ago, when I lived in WA, (before many of you were born probably, I feel that old ;-), A mate in a farm had a really old diesel generator. He used to run it of a mixture of used sump oil, used kitchen oil from fish&chip fryers, and kerosene. The thing was a huge single cylinder out in the open, well it did have a tin roof to keep most of the rain out, and it ran 24/7 for weeks at a time.
This guy would take a trip into town once a month, and garages and fish&chip shops would pay him to take the used oils away, which he then used to run this generator to power his farm. So effectively he was getting payed to use electricity.
I moved away from WA nearly 30 years ago and have lost touch but this reminded me of the coolest use of old sump oil I have ever seen.

Yeah diesel engines will run on just about anything, though I wouldn't want to be the one cleaning a diesel engine that ran on sump oil!

We pour it on fence posts to stop ants and rot. Being on a farm, its easy enough to find a few posts..
We used to get it sprayed on the dirt driveway to stop the dust and water pooling but the EPA had a fit and we're not allowed to do that anymore....Aholes....

Ditto.....

Or when you have got 20L, , ask someone with a timber picket fence if they want you to roll on a coat of professional timber stain to keep the fence looking new, and stop the timber from drying out, and to protect the posts from termites, and to stop the grass growing just below the fence. Charge em $200 and go buy a cheap spray gun from bunnings, and spray away.

I know a guy who does this, , and he has done about a dozen houses in our area. They look great !

Me, , it goes in the wheelie bin.

Geez guys, don't be so lazy, don't pour it back into the ground, it ends up in the water table.
Mine goes out to be collected on recycle day, I don't know if your local council does a recycle pick up, but mine does.
Or save up a few packs of old oil then make a trip to the tip and put it into the big oil bin there, they take any sort of oil, brake fluid, paint etc.
A liitle bit effort, I mean you put a lot of effort into your car, so do the right thing.
Sorry about the rant but there ya go.

At our old place we had a wooden bridge that went over the creek in our driveway, we used to paint it on the bridge to protect the wood.

I save up the oil, and collect 6-pack-holders, then go on an environmental bender in the Gippsland Lakes. If I'm lucky I'll take out a dolphin or six.
