Have had a good look under the bonnet, cant see any vacuum hoses off or loose, have cleaned the throtle body also.
Its like the automatic choke is stuck on, but I dont have a clue about how the choke on these things work! Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

check your accelrator cable, it can pop out of its housing a bit which results in high idle. check manifold bolts, make sure they are tight.

Have been right over it, checked all vac hoses, intake hoses, manifold bolts and gaskets, have even disconnected the Battery hoping to reset the computor!
Still runs the same!

What about PCV valve? Or the MAP sensor. It sounds like a vacuum leak to me, and they're the two I'd check first.

If the throttle body is fully closed when its idling then it must have some sort of air leak.

Maybe check the ISC. I have a feeling, mine's being a bit faulty, on me. Gives rather high RPM at times.

I think he means PCV like JC said, it's on top of your rocker cover, towards the front. Make sure it's not loose there.

ISC is your idle speed controller. It adjusts your idle between low and high, depending on temperatures, etc. Sometimes it gets stuck open, leaving the idle on high. So if you disconnect it, you should just have the one idle level. Most people just have their's disconnected all the time.
ISC is bolted on top of the throttle body. It has a 1-2" cylinder on it, with a black knob. On there, you will see a plug connected to it at the back of it (closest to the windscreen). Un plug it, and see if your idle comes down. If it still goes up high, you have a vacuum leak. If not, then take off that piece, and give it a clean out with some Throttle Body cleaner.

Just want to say thanks to all involved in this thread! My AU 5litre recently started stalling when cold, and when hot it would idle at about 1500RPM. Thanks to this thread, I disconnect the ISC and it went down to about 600-700RPM when hot, but still stalled cold. This morning I replaced the ISC and its as good as new! ALL FIXED!
Thanks so much for the info! For those who will follow in my footsteps, here's a pic of the ISC unit in place on a 5Ltr
