AU Series 1 Question

I was wondering if anyone can answer me this (which I'm sure someone can).

Series 1 cars had different front end components which don't allow Series 2/3 brakes to simply bolt up (and don't I hate that). My question is how did certain cars get optioned up with Tickford brakes from the factory and bolt up? Did they use a different bracket or simply using all the left over stock from the E Series cars.

I ask because i want to my single pot brakes off my Series 1 and came across that thought.

The series 1 AUs that came with the Tickford premium brake set-up had a different stub axle (upright) to which the caliper mounted. The rest of the front end was the same as other series 1's (sway bar, control arms, etc)
I did this conversion on my old AU, but the stub axles are hard to come by, you really need to buy the whole set-up from someone like FTG, which is what I did.

Okay, so they were a different stub axle, that makes sense. So effectively with that stub axle any later model calipers would bolt up.

I like the thought of getting a complete front end but I don't think my brother will want to fit it and would rather spend time on my other car.

Would Ford still sell these stub axles new by any chance?

I don't think they do still sell them new unfortunately, I seem to recall someone on here looking at a used TE50 that had been in an accident and had a cracked upright amongst the damage, and it was the only part that was no longer available from Ford.

Hmmm, that doesnt sound like the best idea then. I'll keep an eye out for some on a wreck early T car or spec'ed up XR6/8 that has decent ones. Otherwise complete front end swap here we come. Cheers for the advice Matt.

You can still buy the R/H one from Ford but rather expensive, like $2100.00.

You would actually need to change the lower arm as well as the series 1 sway bar mount would be in the way of the caliper. I believe that most wreckers can do a good deal on control arms and stub axles or, you could buy a written off AUII, III, BA that had a big rear ender?
