Can you blokes help?
Im looking for a thread on how to integrate a BA transmission to an AU. I know someone here has done it, but not sure where to look. The search function cant narrow it down for me the way I want it so if you could assist that would be great.

Secondly, is it just the SSS shift you want? If so, been there, done that, and without a replacement valve or solenoid (at a cost of $500 odd), the AU transmission won't hold first gear (you end up with a box full of neutrals after about 60 km/h, and then when you change up, it finally gets around to engaging second). You will need to source a BA shifter assembly, complete with cable, and you need to drill a 25mm hole in the firewall for the cable to pass through. you also MUST use heat shield around the cable near the exhaust, or the cable will melt which renders the mechanism useless. You also need to fabricate a bracket to hold the cable in position near the shift lever on the gearbox. Also, you will need to source an electronic box from Muzza, though I haven't seem him on the forums for a while; worth sending him a PM though. I probably have the original hardware and software install instructions somewhere, if you want to go ahead. IMO, your best bet, and probably a cheaper option, would be to get hold of the T series ESS shift electronics and valve/solenoid for the gear box, and hook it up to a T series auto (with buttons) steering wheel. Here's the original thread about my install (not step by step - you have to read between the lines a bit): http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=29346

JC - love your work mate. Thanks for the brief run down. I just want to do some research on the options of this. This is a possible project for the future.
As with everything, I dont expect it to be easy, but if I can be aware of ALL the aspects, pro's & con's then I will make an informed decision of what to do from there. Either a major mod like that or just go a rebuilt AU trans with beefed internals and manual valvebody, or something to that description. EDIT: How hard would it be to fit a BF 6sp trans to an AU?

Ive already got a shift kit fitted Nath.
What I would like is the box to be strong enough to handle manual shifts when needed. i.e. manual down shifts with spirited driving in the hills. I heard my trans doesnt like to be forced to downshift at high revs when decelerating. Apparently it can harm the bearings? or something to that effect. The enquiry about the SSS option was something I have spoken to others aboutm but just wanted to look at the viability of it actually working abd being reliable. I like manually shifting up and down gears, whether it be via an SSS system from an B series, or heavily strengthening an AU trans with manual valvebodies etc, that will be the choice I will make should this gearbox die.

Put a 4 speed pro ratchet in and colour code it to interior, beef the trans up accordingly. You could put a revers pattern valve body in it so you shift with the Geez.Around 2-2.5k should see it done.
I have this in my SLE and poos on the SSS setup(ratchet/reverse body) |

Just kidding. This sounds like a far better option. What do you mean by 'shift with the Geez'? And is there any way of just using the lever from the shifter with the gear knob and still using the standard console?

Shifting with the G forces like the BA setup, pull down to go up a gear ect. When you give it a boot you go back in your seat so pulling down for the gear is a more natural movement.
As far as using the shifting setup and not the surround from the pro ratchet shifter im not 100% sure, anythings possible though and looking at it in my head im sure someone will have a go at it.Another old way is to look at the detents on the shifter mech (looks like a series of small steps)some models you can file the steps deeper so when it select gear (hard shifting)its less prone to go from 1st to drive or something. This way you still retain the factory forward shifting to go through the gears. Does this make sense? |

Kind of.
I was thinking of perhaps retaining a semi-stock appearance. Even a shifter like the one below would be good. http://www.bmracing.com/SPECIALS/Con...ole-with-AODE#

yeah thanks fellas. That look with the reverse manual valve body, strengthened internals, I think would the way to go.
Does anyone know if it will work the same way as the pro ratchet?

That one will be better than the pro ratchet as their is a reverse lockout lever you have to push to hit reverse everytime and aint freindly on the street safety wise. This one you select R the same as normal just with a little more force from wrist/hand,LOL.edit:sorry to select reverse in the one above it needs to be in D to pull the lever to engage R,no biggy.
^^^^Thats the one you want or a similar style/setup. Last edited by FreddyDUZ747; 12-11-2009 at 03:18 PM. |

Where would I get a leather boot from though similar to the one shown in the picture? Also, how do I make sure the console Hammer shifter actually fits my trans? These also on Ebay for sale for about the same price http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/B-M-8...Q5fAccessories

Just specify the trans/vehicle and get the associated mount kit that goes along the trans sump area where the bolts are.The hardest part(if ya call it that)will be making it all purty and sitting factory like.Leather boot I thought was obtainable through them? Yes the dollar is good hence why my B&M 177 blower is happening :evil3: |
