Default Bargain rims!

Woohoo! won some rims on Ebay today, $46.50 all up. Feel a bit sorry for the seller. But no reserve. Wrong time of year I guess.

17's. I reckon they'll look alright. Gotta pick up from Dapto.

Anyone got these? Tyre recommendations?

What a bargain!

The recommended tyres for 17" is 205/50/R17.

For performance tyres, you have a couple of choices:
Bridgestone Adrenalin Potenza RE001 - these come highly recommended (or for ultra-high performace try the Potenza RE050)
Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, or F1 GS-D3 (not sure if they do a 205/50/R17)
Pirelli PZero Nero or PZero's

Alternatively, try Falken 452's or Maxxi's MA-Z1's. I know some peple also like Dunlop SP Sport Maxx's, my mate had a good run on these tyres on his Mazda 3.

Personally, I went for Marangoni Mythos tyres, which grip very well and are reasonably priced. I would probably try the RE001's next time, for the sake or comparsion.

Hi Leakey,

A great pickup, they look great. One thing to check is that the center hub locating rings are still in the rims, I bought a bargain set of rims for a Suzuki I had and the center hubs rings were missing. I had to go out and buy them before I could use the wheels, what a pain! I wanted to fit them and had to wait for a week or so, not an issue I know but I was all revved up to have them on.

Great advice. Didn't even think of that! I guess I'm still ahead of the pack though regards outlay.

However... haven't heard from seller yet..... starting to feel like that 99c bumper I won a while back.

In case you're reading this - you still owe me $3.00 :

If it does go pear shaped, I'll say one thing - bloody well put things you want a particular price for, as a buy it now!! or on Trading Post.
Dont start at 99c and hope for the best. If you lose out, that's your deal. If he/she is a member of this site I certainly wont hold back this time...

... then again, he/she may just be on holidays..... we'll see.

Im willing to bet you never get the rims.
no one would let them go for that price - rules or not.
Nothing you can do about it either.

Shame on me for being a doubter. The fella contacted me and asked if this week end was good for pick up. I did ask him what beer he likes. Least I can do to lessen the pain!

Got the rims. They're sweet as. Tiny bit of gutter rash.

Been spreayed black inside, which really makes the dish and spokes pop.

Tyres are pretty average. One still OK. Maybe I'll look for another cheap 17" rim, and use that as the spare. I currently havea space saver.

Tyres are called CLEAR, and they are 215, 45 x 17's and sit nice and square on the rims with almost no overhang/bulge.

From that I am assuming they are 17 x 7's. Does that mean I can look in the range of 215, 225, 235s?

I've only ever seen 45 profiles talked about. What about 50, 55 or 60? Still low, but probably not so harsh. What do you think?

I am so stoked. $46!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From knowledge the 45 series rubber are more popular because they combine the 4 factors most people seek for a tyre. 1st is Looks (they aren't too small but yet not too large to reduce the look of the rims size. 2nd is cost (they aren't as expensive as 30 series etc... yet a tad more than 50 or even 75 series tyres). 3rd is ride comfort they still have enough "give" in the sidewalls to not create a bone breaking ride like smaller profile tyres, and finally 4th would be performance of the tyres, the smaller than usual sidewall sharpens the steering response and still has enough flex but not as severe as normal 60+ series tyres.

$46 is a steal, good find, I am not confident enough to part my money on the net...
