new spark plugs and leads fixed this problem for me, but this is a common problem and there are plenty of threads with the different possible causes, just a case of elimination. Try a search and see what you can come up with.

on the fuel pump there is a flexible hose, over time this can develop a small split which causes it to suck air causing the symptoms you mention

600 was what i was thinking with the wifes car even after changing the fuel pump and filters, end result just over $1000. flushed through fuel line replaced fuel rail and also rec'd the injectors. been back 4 times to them got sick of that took it somewhere else another 300 for tune. still runs like a dog blows black crap, gutless as hell, chews through premium petrol like air, have given up on it

When was the last time you changed your fuel filter George? Could be bad batch of fuel.

a couple of months is nothing. Fuel filters can last about 70,000km before changing. So I doubt it will be that. Be interested to hear what your mech has to say about it

did you change the pump though when you change filter? if so, are you using an intank fuel hose from the pump to the cradle?.... if its not an intank hose it well swell and split. Or it will erode the outside of the hose untill it reaches the inner layer which is fuel resistant (EFI hose) and that eroded outer layer of the hose will end up blocking your sock filter.

ok guys well here is the news i got the car back, so here is the deal the plugs i had bought did turn out to be dodgey, the other news is that the major thing was that yeh i had come across a real bad batch of fuel and it stuffed the filter there for depriving the car of fuel.

mechanic said very lucky as it could of done alot more damage..

all up new leads again, new filter, new plugs to be on the safe side again, new air filter all installed for $100 through a ver good mechanic in under half a day did the trick..

thanks to everyone for the help....

Why new leads again??? They only need replacing once in a blue moon and are easy to test with a multimeter to see if they need replacing.

what is the most common contaminent in fuel? only ask as had another look at the wifes car, removed the fuel bump and put my hand into the tank where the pump sits and there was some crud in there, i got the magnet out and ran it along the bottom of the tank but only picked up from the sectioned off part the pump sits in. it seemed to be rusting metal flakes. i relaced the fuel filter at the rear wheel and it had brown fuel in it. Just wondering where this would have come from as the tanks are all plastic. im guessin that when the car is runnin the stuff gets sucked onto the sock filter and cloggs it and falls back to the bottom when you turn the car off, was a fair bit about a open hand full.

dont realy think the plastictanks are the issue as much as the dodgey fuels we have been sold....

this batch was shell product....

my mechanic said to avoid it.

right now the cleanest he has found is bp as apparenlty realy cleaned up their quality after the spill they have been under a very watchfull eye ive been told...we'll see yeh...
