Default AUII Cluster Chimes on Occasional Startup

I've just recieved my first ever company car with a new job. It's an AUII Ute.

It has a curious set of instrument cluster chimes upon startup sometimes. Two (maybe three) sets of 3 assending sounds. It is actually the very chime-set that my EL GLi does when I shut-down with headlights on. "Do Da Ding - Do Da Ding" The difference being the AU does only two or three repeats wheras the EL only stops repeating when lights are switched off.

So far I've asertained that it generally only happens on a cold start.

The AUII ute came with a Max Ellery's but I cannot find a list of dash chime warnings and it has no owners manual in the glovebox.

Any ideas?

If the DTE (distance to empty) is below 80km it will chime as soon as you turn key to remind you it needs fuel... it also chimes again at 40km DTE... and then 20km....

There is also a speed alert chime (look for an S in a circle in the LCD display) which i think comes on as well to say its active

sounds like low fuel warning to me. Push your trip meter to change between distance traveled and distance to empty. (dte) as mentioned above it'll first chime when the car decides that you only have a range of 80kms left in the tank. Again at 40 and 20.
nothing to worry about mate.

Dunno about the low fuel warning. It has done it with both tanks (duel fuel) well above half way. The petrol fuel guage works perfectly so I'd doubt any issue there.

This said though, I haven't even played or looked at the DTE functions yet. I imagine that the DTE updates with the fuel gauge (integrated system).

Mate does it have a ford alarm, if so three chimes is a flat battery alert for the alarm, needs a new battery pack available from battery world.

STROPP,

No idea about the alarm. Is there some tell-tale sign I could look for for an alarm system?

Only at startup???

One thing I'd check is the speedo ... is the speedo actually jumping up to about 20km/h with the handbrake on???? And doing it intermittently.

This is another cause of the chime you speak of as well.
The speedo sensor in the auto trans either needs cleaning or replacing if that is the case.
