Default Something to take from Carsales

Well...I think this may be a timely reminder and I fully concur with the authors statements (something unusually for me and carsales).

Sure we may disagree with what some people say, everyone has a backside and opinion, but its how you deliver it that counts.

At the end of the day we are talking about cars, and our general man-love for metal, so I think its about time we chill out a bit.

I think being restrained with social media is something that we learn over time, but before clicking post just make sure what your saying isnt full of emotion because as good as they are the smilies dont capture your tone.

Drive and enjoy.

Responsibly.

I agree with that.
I know people say "its just a forum" or whatever but that's no reason to be an ***.
Someone once said that manners are the glue that holds society together. We can all have different opinions, beliefs or ideas but if we express them with manners there is rarely a problem. It lets us get along.

Yes indeed , its amazing how one post made in obvious jest quickly gets a reply that is a personal attack or insult, and some are notorious for it, agree with both of the above posts.

I think he has answered his own problem and offered some great advice in the one sentence.

For those commenters that do add value, I'd ask you to ignore the bolt-necks and continue to do so. Your contribution to our content is valuable and appreciated

Just need to think before hitting the enter key, would you talk to someone you didn't know face to face like that? Regardless of some of the issues this forum has, its been proven time and time again when someone is in a sticky situation with need of a part, or even help getting their car started there are some members who will just willingly jump at the opportunity to come face to face with their online FF mates and lend a hand.

Meh. Forums, much the internet as a whole, are full of garbage, you have to learn to filter.
Post a thread asking for information or recommendations, and the majority of replies will have nothing to do with either. But in amongst those will be the genuinely helpful.
And its not just the internet. Try publishing a professional or scientific article, and watch your "Esteemed Peers" rip you to shreds.

The problem with many members on car forums is they only participate to buy cheap parts or want to tap into the wealth of knowledge of others to get themselves out of a pickle / resolve issues with their cars. These members only start threads to benefit themselves and these very specific questions largely exclude many members from participation. Sure this is one of the fundamental functions of such a car communities, but these types of members dont invigorate the thoughts of other members, its always take, take, take from the community.

Then there is the salesman, sure every community needs support to exist and the salesman largely provide that in return for a medium to grab from the community using membership to promote their products. My experience says sometimes their so called "free" advice needs to be taken with a grain of salt as their ultimate goal is always to sell product.

On the other hand, many members (likened to myself) come on with a view to impart their car experiences and enjoy some light hearted car related discussions. These types of members are not here to try and grab/take anything from other members, but instead here give, to raise a good contentious topic to enable participation and inclusion of as many community members as possible.

But sometimes members forget that some of the inclusive topics are raised to promote participation and inclusion, to evaluate different points of view. When some opinions are proven to hold little water, some members fall back to a position and resort to insulting other members and ultimately take the topic into the gutter. So I ask that we also embrace inclusive and sometimes contentious topics that promote thought.

There are many reasons to participate, some not mentioned above, all valid and relevant. Which type of member are you?

I think I prefer the people who will ask a question and listen to the advice given, then someone who starts a thread asking a question that they've already make there mind up on the answer.
