Some wonderful photos, though no video is a bummer.

Anyone can drive along the Stuart and do the same, some nice scenery and some parts which are ordinary (I've done the trip more than a few times). Might be interesting to see the speedo neddle pegged, but what is the point?

No point. Only gives ammunition to suckers like Harold Screwball and Ken Lay to reduce highway limits to 80kph across this snail-paced nation, in the name of shmoad shmafety

I think the highway is again an open speed limit so perfectly legal.

Yes its legal, but for how long? People publicising how fast a car can go on a public road should just be kept quiet and not plastered on the media. Not long before one of the aforementioned minds perk up and say 'what if blah blah', even if nobody gets hurt, which is the basis of the new hoon laws, etc, etc the basis of all of them is 'what if', even if it the activity was in perfectly safe conditions and nobody was hurt.

No where near all of it.
"A one year open speed trial commenced on 1 February 2014 on a section of the Stuart Highway north of Alice Springs to just south of Barrow Creek. From 1 September 2014 the existing open speed trial will include a new 72 kilometre stretch of the Highway from Barrow Creek to just south of the Ali Curung Rail Overpass"

The sections of (//) are not the problem with NT's road toll to date, stands two higher than same time last year.

Swiss campaigning to have their 120kmh (75mph) motorway limit raised to 140kmh - to better reflect conditions:-

Fire our government and bring in some swiss or germans. They seem to handle things quite well over there..

That's bloody stupid.

The open limit is there so you can sit on a good, controllable speed through the straight wide bits, not so you can try and pull 280kph to beat some other ******.

This sorta crap is exactly what's gonna end up getting the trial removed.

I'm fine with taking your own car down and seeing what it does but don't do a damn article about it. Won't be long before the "Speed Kills" Brigade reads this and starts their whinging again.

They already did, well before the de-restriction was back in place.

Yeah Scruby's an utter fwit.

No need to give them any more ammo with articles like this though.
