60 sales since they opened last year. Trying to price their Chinese garbage at a premium was just an absolutely stupid idea. Maybe the buying public aren't as stupid as I think. Hopefully they will end up leaving the country and taking their chinese made junk with them.

Are these sold in the states?

I remember watching an episode of an American mini series and they were driving these around - probably a sponsorship situation.

Their prices are nothing special at first glance - they may have a higher spec but I think you can haggle a great deal on its Japanese and Korean competitors and get within a few grand of the Haval price.

Ok get ready for a laugh. I drove one at work the H7, and really quite liked it. The interior was really nice. It was underpowered for a 4wd (2.0direct injection turbo) but otherwise quite nice. If people saw it as a value for money proposition it would sell better, but the pricing is ridiculous for a chinese car.

Cars from China are not going to be dramatically cheaper than the rest. The car industry is very capital intensive not labour intensive, with labour costs being around 5% of the wholesale cost of high volume cars - you are probably only saving hundreds in getting cars from China rather than other places - it's the volume where they can potentially make up ground.

They will leave Australia soon. Great Wall actual sold some vehicles and they have now left, I don't think this brand is in with a chance at those prices.
You can get some good SUVs for 50k. Not the top spec model, but I would prefer a lower spec model over a Haval.

I just looked them up before and the newest I could find was 2014 models.

I thought they were gone from here now.

Edit: I just had another look and there seams to be quite a few 'brand new' 2014 models, but nothing newer.

Great Wall will assume control of Australian and New Zealand operations from July 1, armed with an aggressively priced dual-cab ute it hopes will steal sales from other entry-level players in the light commercial market.

Over priced for my like ,saw one at car show in Brisbane. Nice but $50k for a small suv with 2lt diesel come on , I'd rather buy territory.

Haval is the upmarket division of Great Wall, similar to what Lexus is to Toyota.

Whether either of them will do any better than under the current distributor is yet to be seen.

Proton tried this 'premium price' approach when they first came to Australia around 1996. They were priced in the $25-$28k region while the opposition was priced below $20k for a similarly sized car. Admittedly they were well equipped but they failed miserably.

Proton was and is a massive embarrassment. Being Malaysian myself, they are equivalent of Holden in Malaysia, except everyone is forced to buy one due to extreme taxes on all imported cars. Their designs were traditionally recycled adapted mitsubishis, and now they are finally producing their own designs, much like Holden recycling Opel .

Love how people are giving this thing stick, without knowing anything about it.
Id never heard of them, so had a quick read on the H9, there's a lot of spec for a really cheap price, the interior looks good plenty of safety features.
the only negative I can see is the 2L petrol? being underpowered.
as for quality how can anybody pass judgement

You might have it confused.
The small one (H2) starts at $25K 1.5L petrol
$50K get you into a 5 seat H8 or big 7 seat 4WD H9

Your right mate , the one I saw advertised at the car show said 2lt diesel (go figure ). Nice car but small engine for SUV.

Why don't the Chinese do us all a favour & withdraw all their vehicles from the Australian market!If you cannot afford a new SUV/light truck,there is always plenty of pre owned quality Japanese/Korean vehicles out there.Why any one buy's these things is beyond me!!

Apart from soccer mums, they are advised for people with arthritis, elderly etc. As they put less strain on spine and joints. Less bending and twisting getting in out of SUV's than a normal car. Cars these days are built lower to the ground than 10-20 years ago. I looked at a Mondeo wagon.. Sportswagon and had problems getting in and out, Captiva no problems..all depends on a persons requirements....

I am commenting on Chinese vehicles in general,& if you read post correctly I did not put any "negative" comments on "SUV" vehicles in general.If you wish to purchase one that is entirely your preogative.As I alluded to in post, there are plenty of other quality vehicles around other than these.Cheers

I saw a naval 4wd today at the caravan show. Now I don't know what model it was but it was about the size of a terri/prado and based on looking at it from the outside as well as inside, it looked quite smart. No idea what model it was or what engine it had but was impressed. Whether I would stump up the money for one is another topic.

Uh... you do know that the GM's 2016 Buick Envision, and the 2016 Volvo S60 are both made in China? As was the Volkswagen Passat until 3 years ago.

Can I ask if you've driven the Haval, and assuming you have, what specific features—or lack thereof—lead you to claim that it's "rubbish"?

Vw have been made in China(for their "Domestic" market.) for a number of years now,as Buick has,which as we all now is a GM subsidiary.(this is"old" news.)

It's not about where they are built, it's what company designed and developed them.

Manufacturing systems are then localised in each manufacturing plant., the quality for most part is the same.

That's what I would of thought. These days a large amount of the build process would be done by machines. Surely the machines say a German brand uses in Germany are the same as the machines that German company use in another "cheaper" country. Of course there are other factors, but I wonder how much worse the end product would actually be. Probably not much difference.

Some stuff isn't completely robotic, like attaching plastic trim pieces together, and the painting process. The original Japanese made Hondas usually hold up well in the factory paint for a decade, while I have seen firsthand Thai build accords flaking off and peeling within 18months.

I don't understand why you would have a problem with this car being on the market here.
is it just because its Chinese?

The reviews I've watched make it stack up very well, they say build quality is good.
Its not for me but I'm not going to slander it because of that

regardless of how well they are selling Competition in the marketplace is good for the consumer.
