Never /* touch wood */ but a tow truck helped me get my car off the ramp that fateful day, but my car never went on the tow truck.

Its broken down a few times, but i "play it where it lies"... get home somehow, round up the tools, parts, grab a mate and set up on the side of the road where it broke down. Lol, have spent all day in foreign neighbourhoods working on the thing.

I chose "No Times" with a huuuge touch wood. Although my car has stuffed up plenty of times, i've always been determined and have managed to get it home sans assistance from the towwies.

1 - I blew a heater hose in geelong, Just waited till the car cooled and drove without water 1Km up the road to the nearest mechanic I saw,

2 - Clutch Cable pulled through the firewall, total clutch failure - Drove home without the clutch (i'm one of those clever people who can drive without the clutch by knowing when to slip the gears in.. lol)

3 - Smashed the car.... Drove home with numberplate hanging off and bonnet bouncing in the breeze.... hahaha

hope I dont need tow trucks anytime soon!

My EF has been on a tow truck once and the EA I used to have had one ride on the back of a truck as well. I hope I never have to see the EF on the back of a truck again, its just not right....

The EA never needed a Tow

The EB got towed when its pipes exploded in the Springvale/MAronndah highway intersection at 5:30pm on a Friday. Came close one other time when it blet the alt belt in Clayton, dont ask, but i got it home (mitcham) without an alt or cooling fan.

My ea only broke down on me once. the ignition lock seized, leaving me stranded in a car park. Mr RACV showed me how unsecure old cars really are, and had it on the road in about 2 minutes.

The EF - well, lets not tempt fate, shall we?

My old EA had to get towed once when I owned it. And once since Damo has owned it. To this date, neither the VS or EL has been on a tow truck.

Twice, both by RACV. Once was when the coil went and they had to tow it to a hoist. The other was when it did a heater hose under the inlet manifold, and the RACV dude towed it ,even though i didn't want it towed. I just wanted the hose he had (i had none with me) but he refused to let me do it myself. Wasn't free either, cos their tow-truck was buggered and they had to get someone else to tow it, at MY EXPENSE. Bah!

Never. Only broken down twice, both over heating.

First time the thermostat seized shut, I let it cool down for a few minutes, then booted it until the light came on, caught the bus from there, caught the bus back, drove it until the light came on, got dad to come get me, got a light back out, got it home that time. In hindsight I should of just ripped the thermostat out the first time and driven home.

Second time the fans didn't kick in. Let it cool down for 15 minutes, drove over the median strip on Wellington Road and gave it a bootfull driving home, turning it off at the lights. 150 kph down Westall Road just keeping air flowing through the radiator.

That would of been fun to explain if I got pulled over!

Cool

Ive only had the EA towed once, and thats too many. I snapped the fan belt by driving it with a stuffed fan clutch (locked on), it happened along the M4 on the way back from the Motorshow at 12.00 am! with five of us in the car. :
(ps. temp goes up quick with no water pump/fan doing 2500rpm!)

Brent.

I've never had any of my cars on a truck yet, except my damaged EL which by that stage had no wheels, suspension, interior or driveline.

However, I think we should try to organise a Club discount with a major towing company.
