Ah definantly sounds like it isnt an orignal XR with all that stuff on it.

No way would it come with standard non-ticky parts from factory, im sorry to say but it sounds like your mate got ripped hope he didnt pay too much? Was probably in a front end accident and just put an XR front on.

No tickford ecu, engine spells major dodgy.

Is the spare wheel still the original factory XR6 mag or just a steelie as usually when people change wheels they still leave the spare alloy in the boot and sell 4 off.

Does it have a LSD that will be fun to test : as a XR6 should have 3:45 LSD maybe even check the tag on the diff if you can find it.

Does it have XR6 badge on the glovebox? or a leather wrapped steering wheel?

Are seats more bucket style/more supportive than normal EF seats? Square donut shaped headrest at front?

All these could be easily changed though, checkout www.myford.com.au punch in the VIN numbers etc and it will to you what is was from factory, color, transmission etc but its down at the moment.

he was gunna pay 6500 for it but talked him down to 5000 has the bodykit it was the same bodykit that was on his ef fairmont ghia same wheels aswell but these are chrome i didn't think they came from factory chrome just the rear bar and the engine and the ECU bein different just doesn't make sense if it is a ticky engine isn't there a ticky wing on the head or something

Yeah that front bars aftermarket and so are the wheels the origanals dont come in chrome.

VenomXR you first register and then you are able to type in your vehicles details Vin etc (cant remember what else) and it has a massive database that will tell you stuff like:
- WHere vehicle was purchased from
- Date of manafacture
- Engine/transmission type
- and even color if i remeber correctly

Mine all checked out 100% even the listed dealership it was sold at was correct. But yeah the sites down at the moment dont whats up with that.

here is somethink i found
FORD FALCON XR6

PHIL SCOTT
The Sun-Herald
Tuesday February 23 1999

Date of publication: July 20, 1997 The Sun-Herald

Date of publication: July 20, 1997
The Sun-Herald
CAR: Ford Falcon XR6
PIGEONHOLE: Local bloke's car done good.
PHILOSOPHY: More pace with Falcon space.
WHO'S BUYING IT: Value-conscious dads who enjoy their driving.
WHY YOU'D BUY IT: Performs better than a standard Falcon V8, handles better too.
WHY YOU WOULDN'T: It's still a Falcon.
STANDARD EQUIPMENT: As well as the engine performance improvements, sports suspension, limited-slip differential, alloy wheels and sporty body extras, standard stuff includes anti-skid brakes, keyless remote central locking and immobiliser, front power windows, electric rear-view mirrors, extra gauges for oil pressure and battery voltage, a battery saver system, leather-bound steering wheel and wiring for mobile phone.
SAFETY: Hefty weight is a plus. There's a lap-sash belt for the centre rear passenger and all five belts are fitted with lockers. Dual air bags and anti-submarining seat pans are fitted in front seats. Ford also claims better than average side-impact protection and roof crush characteristics.
CABIN: Since Ford's 1994 redesign the cabin has been better than Commodore. Instruments and switches are well designed and sturdy.
SEATING: Front seats are well-shaped with a great range of adjustment. Rear seat is wide enough for three, though transmission tunnel dictates splay-legs in the centre.
ENGINE: 4.0-litre, in-line six tuned by Ford's hot shop, Tickford Vehicle Engineering. Power is probably greater than official 164kW, just one less than Ford's imported 5.0-litre V8. The warmed-up six isn't quite as strong as a V8 at low revs, but it packs a mighty mid-range punch. Single overhead cam and two valves per cylinder means it doesn't rev like a BMW, but it doesn't need to.
TRANSMISSION: Five-speed manual works well if the driver is prepared to put some muscle behind the long-throw lever. Four-speed electronically controlled auto is a fine transmission, responsive and smooth, but doesn't deliver the same sporty feel.
STEERING: Powered rack-and-pinion system is responsive, accurate and delivers enough road feel. Much better than a standard Falcon.
RIDE: Sports suspension is firmer than a standard Falcon, but not uncomfortable.
HANDLING: It turns into corners easily and the well sorted rear end allows the powerful six to really punch the big car out of bends.
FUEL: Economy isn't brilliant if you exploit the performance potential. Hard driving can push the consumption rate past the 15.0 litres/100km mark. Feather-foots will find less than 10.0 litres/100km possible.
BRAKES: Discs all round with ABS looks good on paper, but in reality the brakes are marginal. XR6 weighs a hefty 1570kg and hard use provokes early fading. Not good enough.
BUILD: Falcon quality has steadily improved through the 90s and the XR6 is no exception. Not as finely crafted as a Made In Japan medium but not so far behind as public perception.
WARRANTY: Three years/100,000km.
ANTI-THEFT: Very good. Engine immobiliser, theft-resistant external locks and strong steering lock housing. A hard nut to crack.
AUDIO SYSTEM: Six-speaker radio-cassette. Six CD stacker optional.
COST
Official prices of $38,826 for the manual and $39,550 for auto are rubbery. Demand is slow and the profit margin high, which means whittling up to $4,000 off the standard price is possible.
VERDICT
A uniquely Australian formula.
XR6 is a big, sturdy family car that's rewarding to drive. Old-fashioned and in places low-tech, the sporty Falcon lacks the last degrees of finesse that make a thoroughbred but it costs only a fraction of the price of cars that are. Great value considering its abilities, versatile space and load capacity.
