All,
Just looking at getting myself a dial indicator so i can setup my vernier gear. There are some cheap ones on ebay, but im not sure they will be accurate enough. Plus they dont come with stands. Here are a few URLs -- but can anyone recommend how much to spend, how accurate it needs to be and where to get one from? http://www.gromax-usa.com/saving/indicator/MB100.htm http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....23139&tc=photo http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI....57824&tc=photo Cheers Jase |

I have that exact same stand and think it's pretty good. My dial indicator is a "Toolex" brand, I think it cost me somewhere around $45. Seems pretty accurate.

They will be plenty accurate enough for clocking up a cam.
I personally would choose an imperial one, but that's simply because I'm used to working with imperial measurements on engines. I'm not keen on that particular style of mount as it has that fine adjustment for angling the second rod. They tend to flex too much for accurate measurements IMO. I'd look for one with one piece rods. More importantly is how you use a clock, rather than how good the actual unit is. If you're only using it on the odd occasion for degreeing a cam, then a cheapy will work fine. Rick.

thanks guys.
the problem is the ebay ones dont have mounts. only some US based sites (read: expensive) have mounts at all. i do only want it for degreeing my and my brothers cam but it may come in handy some day. dont have anyone i can borrow one off which sucks. i might try the local tool shop but they are a ripoff. cheers Jase |

I'm pretty sure I've seen clocks and mounts at Bunnings at a fair price.
Rick.
