hey guys, i think its about time for a new engine, i was looking at getting a 4ltr ED MPFI and Xr Ecu put in n then i remembered seeing something about an AU engine put into an E series. How easy would it be to do either of these things, and what sort of price would i b looking at?

The AU motor is worthwhile overall but my biggest mistake was trying to use the ED inlet manifold. The front K frame cross member will need to be modified which involves welding. My motor was $1400 with all anciliaries and it's virtually brand new. It's a worthy alternative to buying a newer car.

g'day mate i got a 132000k AU motor from Deer Park Wreckers for $600 and converted it to EA ancillaries. Another way around modding the crossmember is to grind the front of the AU sump so it clears. It's easy to fit in as all the EA mounts etc bolt up to the AU block. You really have to decide whether you want to do a full AU conversion with BBM manifold, thermo's etc or just retain your original EA manifold and ancillaries. Doing the latter will be cheaper but requires more 'custom' work.

Hey, i really dont have the first idea about puttin in the engine myself, i was looking at recoed ED engines which should only cost me about $700 n then getting someone to put it in for me, ive got about $4000 to put into the car and i want to make sure that a good job is done. Would there be alot of stuffing around to get this done? or would it b a simple job if i got ahold of all the parts (including XR ECU) n just paid someone to install it all for me?

Being an EA, you just install the motor, just use a EA MPFI ecu
the Tickford XR ECU wont work in a EA properly

if your gonna go ED motor, just stick with the EA ECU and loom like initial D said. You'll get crap all gain from changing to a ED ECU and for the effort required it's not worth it. For $4000 you could buy an ED!
