Default New auto

Ill be replacing the "slush o matic" or normally knows as the auto trans in my car very soon.

I wanted to know, how much fluid would I Need for a complete fill?
So far ive been told 6, 8 and 10 ltrs

Also
Is there any special way of fitting the Torque converter? I 'vaugely' remember having to 'click' the TC into place on the 3 speed auto I had last time I did anything like this

thanks :

LOL. 6L yeah ok. The same way the engine takes 3L of oil.

Try 10.5 my good friend.

You usualy buy the fluid in 4L containers, 12L should see you there with some left over for a top up later on. Have you baught TQ95 before?? Don't faint at the price.

I stand again on 10.5L. Ive removed and installed more BTR's than i care to count.

Wtth regards to the TC, the engagement process is identical to the 3speed iirc. Just watch the pump TC locating tabs, they are very fragile....

When dellboy changed my auto with the one we pulled from the wreck, we put in about four litres. Yes I checked it was full for days and weeks after to be sure.

XRated, the TC and box still had arround 6L of fluid in it then.

John, with regards to clicking in the trans from what i can remember it is a case of inserting the input spline into the TC and rotating the TC untill the two sets of splines slide into the TC. From here make sure the locating tabs/pump drive tabs insert into the box. Its pretty hard to describe but its a very easy procedure.

DONT force the TC on. If it wont go on easy as pie, there is something missaligned.

Gently place the converter on the input shaft and turn it slowly slowly in a clockwise motion. At first you will hear click. The keeep turning it clockwise in the same fashion. You will hear a second click..I think from memroy that you will hear a third click and then the converter is in.Raise the box and bolt the sucker in.

Anyone else advise?

This does sound VERY familiar. I was told this years ago with a 3 speed auto. I imagine this would be the same for a 4 speed?
