Default What the heck is going on?!

Ok, well for a while I was having issue with my car blowing smoke on start up for a good 30 seconds. Now that the warmer weather has come it has seemed not do it as often or so much. Which would explain why it didn't do it when I brought it this time 12 months ago.

Anyway, everyone said replace the valve stem seals, which I did, but it still did it. And when I took the old ones out they really didn't seem that bad at all. It seems once the car sits for atleast 5 hours that oil builds up somewhere and then gets burnt out. Meh.... :

So what do you think it could be? A sensor issue? I am a little over it but would like it fixed.

My other problem now is that it has been running rich basically since Ive had it, but on highways I will easily getting 600-650k's per tank, and around town when I take it easy I get around 450 which to me is acceptable.

But...there is a really strong fuel smell, sometimes i notice it but i think Im used to it, the GF complains about it all the time. She was driving her car behind me yesterday and said she can even smell it then.

I just cleaned the boot and its very very strong in there, so it must seep into the cabin.

Dont get me wrong, it still goes pretty hard, actually I showed up some done up HG? V8 ute last night, the outside looked like he had done some work anyway. :

My exhaust tip is very black, as you can see from these pics. Any idea whats going on?

Here are the pics (sorry photobucket seems to be down)

Regarding the smoke, I'd make sure you're using a kind that is suitable for the car & climate - temperature makes a difference for sure. My Laser blew smoke on startup when the oil was too thin.

Regarding the fuel smell, the car may be running rich. This can be caused by faulty oxygen etc sensors but usually is to do with the car not warming up properly and running cold.

hmm..someone suggested that I should try some turbo motor oil, as its pretty thick. Any tried that?

If its been blowing smoke, then maybe the oxy sensor is stuffed?..but if that doesn't stop the oil smoke then its just going to be a vicous cycle...lol

Sounds very similiar to my EB with the blowing smoke when cold, is your car using heaps of oil Polyal ? does it blow smoke under hard acceleration ? Mine burns about 2-3 litres every couple of thousand K's. I put thicker oil in suited to high K's engines and some stop smoke when I first changed the oil but it made two fifths of stuff all difference. :S

um it was using alot of oil, but its settled a little.

I usually pop a little in once a fortnight.

Im 99.9% sure it doesn't do it under WOT once its cleared after start up, well I dont notice it anyway.

I did try wynns stop smoke, did absolutely NOTHING..made it worse if anything.

Stop smoke is only recommended if you are running an engine into the ground.

I'd try and solve the running rich first. For what it's worth I used 20w50 from memory.

If your car is running rich, check your spark plugs, but also check your distributor cap. But if you wanna tell if it really is burning petrol, then wen you switch the car off walk towards the back of the car. you should be bale to smell it. Well i could anyway when mine was running rich.

20/50 is ideal for falcon motors...

^^^ ok then.

Polyal I reckon the rings are just worn out, how many K's has it done ? mines on 270,000 still goes pretty good though. 16 flat driving off the line with 1500 rpm blowin smoke all the way down the quater. :P :

lol...I would be dissapointed if it doesn't run a mid to high 15...it feels good.

I dont know how many k's its done, when I brought it the guy told me he replaced the engine, but this one is apparently polished and ported a little, but I cant confirm that. The ODO has got 243000 on it.

yeah it could be the rings, I was just hoping it wasn't.

I was semi-contemlpating reco-ing the engine myself; is it hard to do?
