Hello all. After the recent Sorrento cruise, it is clear that we need to do another bulk buy of UHF walkie talkies. As I have a trade account with Jaycar's suppliers, I am able to get them cheaper than retail and in large quantities.
I would need at least 20 orders of the first unit, and if anyone wants to purchase the more expensive second unit, we would need at least 5 people to buy those. All orders must be in to me by the 28th of this month. You can post your names here or PM me. Don't put down an order unless you're serious. I will hand them out at the GOR cruise. Payment is to be made in full on the day or through direct bank deposit before then. Either way you won't get your walkie talkie until you hand over the moolah. First unit (Minimum order quantity for mass purchase is 20 units) 40 Channel UHF/CB Pocket Communicator This lightweight handheld transceiver is suitable for all manner of professional and leisure activities such as hiking, leisure, use on building sites, IT-cablers, electricians, inter-car road trip communication, farming, etc. Open field transmission range is up to an incredible 5km, with typical city range up to one kilometre. Tested in the light industrial area of our Silverwater headquarters in Sydney, and we achieved a clear range of over 4 blocks. - Covers Australian 40 UHF CB channels and repeaters - Green backlit LCD screen - 0.5W maximum RF output - Range up to 5km - No license required - Uses 4 x AAA batteries, not included - Size; body only 105(H) x 60(W) x 35(D)mm. - Antenna length 50mm. RRP: $39.00 My price: $35.00 Second unit (Minimum order quantity of 5 units) These are 3 times more powerful than the first unit, this is the unit I have 40 CHANNEL 1.5W UHF POCKET CB RADIO Our most powerful unit has a range of up to 8km, and with a 1.5W output, it is certainly NO toy. This high-quality lightweight UHF transceiver is ideal for use in many professional and leisure activities, including hiking, camping, farming, building, inter-car road trip communication, IT & Electrical installation. The savings made over mobile phone calls would see these radios pay themselves off very quickly indeed! - Covers Australian 40 UHF CB channels and repeaters - Green backlit LCD screen - 1.5W maximum RF output - Range up to 8km - No license required - Low / High power setting - Fully compliant with Australian CommunicationAuthority guidelines - ACA approved - Uses 4 x AAA batteries, not included - Size: Body only 120(H) x 65(W) x 35(D)mm - Antenna length 57mm. RRP: $99.00 My price: $80.00 I will bulk buy AAA batteries as well if you guys want, if I do they will be about $2 for 4xAAA batteries. If you want to put your name down for ones of these and won't be attending GOR, then that can be done too, but if that is the case then you must pay by direct bank deposit. I will give you my details if that is how you want to pay. Alex |

Ouch... would have been interested if the units were a bit more powerful and better quality.
I and friends of mine do 'Midnight Runs & Cruises'. Been talking about going UHF for a while, but need several kilometres range... 5 watt would have been nice... |

Thought I might add that those prices are very good, I bought a 0.5W UHF for around $70 and the range was only around 3km IIRC.

If you want a unit with 5W, you'll be paying much bigger money, I believe Uniden and GME Electrophone have them, but they are very expensive. Although I might be able to get them through another supplier, I'll have a look around if you like. However, these units aren't bad, they're probably not something you would use everyday, but for cruises, they're perfect.

My work has some 1.5 watt units and they are ordinary. Must be absolute line of sight or they just fail to work.
Another mate of mine has 5 watt units in roads-contruction and they are the ducks guts. 5 watt is same power as car installed UHF and are the best around. You are always gunna get separated on cruises. Normally 5 watt units are 300 bux. I'd be interested to see how much you could track them down for. 40ch UHF Uniden or Motorola... |

Regardless of whether or not I can get the 5W units, I won't be able to get them by GOR.
Also, can one of the mods sticky this thread? Alex |

Yeah shouldn't be a problem Paul, but postage would be extra, I'm not sure how much it is but it shouldn't be too much.
I'm in Endeavour Hills by the way. Alex |

Can we stop calling them walkie talkies? Im getting sick of the cringe factor... :P
1.5 W Handheld getting 8km? I have a uniden UHO-52XR which I bought for use when working on the quad bike on the 1500acre farm. Its a really good unit and solid as, but a bit excessive for car cruises at $420 a pop. My pick of the 5W UHF CBs would have to be the GME Electrophone TX6200. Awesome little radio. HEAPS of features. Great value. If you're feeling fancy and want more range, mount an external UHF antenna on your car and plug it in to your handheld. Just gotta find the right connectors though. I think most modern handheld radios have SMA antenna connectors, or BNC for some of the older ones.

The DC1010 has come down to a standard price of $34.95 each, from Jaycar itself, alot less from Electus.
