Default Hanging Revs

Hi i have a 91 EA Multi point manual,

My question is, when i give it a touch of throttle, or pulling up at lights etc...

Why do the revs hang around 1300-1100, then slowly come back down to a normal idle?

When the revs are high like this, it is very uneven, like they are going up and down.

Throttle pressure sensor is what caused that on mine but i'm unsure if your's has one.

check out the throttle cable, ive got the same problem in mine, about 30-40$ for a mechanic to replace it

Try disconnecting the ISC and see if the revs fall any quicker.

it could be a few things. TPS like someone said, vaccume leak etc although I doubt it. I'd say it's more to do with the ISC and idle setting. Disconnect the ISC and start the car. Set the idle with the idle screw so it sits at about 750rpm. Now turn car off and connect ISC. Start car and let the ECU learn the idle for a few mins (or days in my car's case). If it doesn't, try spraying some WD40 in the ISC. If that doesn't help the ISC might be stuffed.

I had this problem for AGES and I hated it. In the end I set the idle like above and also put a restrictor plate under the ISC. The car took about 4 days to learn the idle but now whenever u cane it the idle goes right back to normal

cause we cant lol were one big angry hatefully family ;)

had the same problem wit my old motor, i adjusted the revs alit and it seemed to go back to where it was, but i dont think its as bad as urs nywayz

Tell me about it, I bought a 3/4" heater hose off them after my one broke, (the one under the intake manifold, no doubt : ) and it's nowhere near 3/4"! A good 2mm less!

Yes! when i disconect the ISC, the idle is perfect. i did this to try set idle properly.. By adjusting that little screw.. So the ISC might need a bit of lub hey? awesome Thanks guys, any other possibilities?

it's not a sensor problem or any other problem,,they are designed to hold revs a bit to reduce emissions,,it makes me laugh to hear all this doom and gloom talk,,it's normal and should not be fiddled with..

Mine Was Doing The Same Thing...took It To The Mechanic And He Placed The Idle Sensor. Mine Is A Cfi So Im Not Sure Where Yours Is, Bur Mine Was Just Under The Air Filter. Any Ways It Was Stuck Up So There For Holding The Revs Higher. Occasionally It Would Let The Revs Down. Since That Has Been Replaced Ive Had No Such Dramas With Idling

Why do some cars do it some cars do it really bad and really take forever to go back to normal idle, then you get others that will just fall basically straight back to idle?

it depends on how the system is set up and what type of idle control is installed,if all is good and the engine is in good nick the revs will hold around the 1000 rpm mark(can be higher or lower) for a few seconds then fall to idle,it's a throw back to the carby days and be buggered if i can figuer out why they continued it into the efi system.

the basic idea is to hold the throttle open for a few seconds when decellerating to lower the emissions expelled from the exhaust.it worked with carburettors but i don't know how effective it is with the EFI systems of today.

the EF and EL's for some reason run very well when the idle solenoid is blocked off.my brother in-laws ef does.
the ea's run fairly well with it working and the eb 2's , ED's can be either.

i do believe the 4 litre engines do not need this as they are efficient enough.
but block it off at your own risk.no responsibility taken.
