Default Turbo Tony has traded the EA for....

Ante called me up a few days ago and dropped the news that he has sold his famous turbo EA for $15,000. Suffice to say that i was quite sadened. Until he told me what he had just purchased...

He is now the proud new owner of AVO's famous world record breaking cravan towing EA!!! Many of you will know this car, but for those of you who don't, this was a turbo EA built by AVO and was listed in the guiness book of records for many years as the fastest vehicle to tow a full sized caravan, close to 210k's an hour if i remember correctly.

No pictures of it yet as it is currently getting the engine rebuild and will be in his driveway about a month from now. I can't wait till our next Dyno day

Something like 360rwkw @ 15psi from what i remember ante saying (don't quote me on that tho). John tells me that it was running 36psi when it was towing the caravan :O

Hmm... wonder what we would have to beat to get that record taken back by an E-series... Isn't it a Viper or something?

- John

EDIT:

Fastest Caravan tow
A Mercedes Benz S600 driven by Eugene Herbert (South Africa) reached a speed of 223.881 km/h (139.113 mph) towing a standard caravan at Hoedspruit Air Force Base, South Africa, on October 24, 2003. The record attempt was arranged by Risk Administrative Consultants.

Payed 18k for it.

I vote Tufed6 to have a stab at taking back the record!!! A set of 2.7's and a 6 speed should help get you there ;)

snypereb: the car was at the show we were at, i seen it leave later in the evening.
i also seen it parked in the car park, and was looking for the old owner to say hi, but obviously not finding him i know why :P
Not sure where the new owner lives, how ever i'd be guessing still local to the area (as the old owner did)

His "old" EA was off its tits!! I loved seeing that thing spin them all the way up to third gear. Did he ever get it down the 1/4?

The caravan-puller should be interesting!!!!

Grr, I want a legal turbo EA!!

When is this one going on a dyno?

Is it still a regular t5 or has it been strengthened? I seem to recall something being done to the box. Cant remember what tho, different gearing perhaps?

Why did he choose to upgrade? His car was pretty sweet and would be much the same as the new wouldnt it?

Did he get a really good price or something?

Avo had built two of these machines, the other is a blue one, owned by my mate. 6 speed manual, 4.11's on the rear (previous owner might've had this put in), and a custom made falcon s cluster that shows 260km on the clock- top speed that is. He has engineers certificate & all relevant documents. Awesome car.

Yes it's Sb3 sam The EA got written off (damn women drivers!) so i stripped all the running gear and wacked it into this ED i bought not long ago. Therefore it has the EL Tickford engine, and now has 148rwkw. And as for the Ajr's, i never got to buy the fourth rim, i sold them awhile ago, sorry John. :O Hope to catch up soon.
