Default Installing a Hu in EL

Hey guys, tonight i was looking at how i can install my head unit. I removed the ash tray and took the left hand side screw out. But the frame work around the Tape Deck wont budge. There's something holding it in from the right hand side, and i don't know what.

Any help would be great!

Thanks Paul

As the others have said, there is a clip that takes some force to release. Also, you will need a security Torx bit to remove the HU once the surround is out of the way.

That tork bit is to get the head unit out! They also get your door handles of too!

I finally work out how to remove the surrounds from around the head unit tonight, and now discover as mentioned above the old tape deck is locked in by some weird screws. Where can i buy, or what can i use to remove these??

you could drill them out or use two very small flat heads to get them out. Super cheap the sell the torx bit sets cheap, might come in handy as you'll find those same screws o the door trims.

Dick Smith Electronics / Tandy, sell the complete sets as well, with a range of different sizes. They retail $20. Lots of other handy types as well.

The correct tool should have the hollow centre, to accomadate the centre post of the screw. If your not fussed, try breaking the centre post out of the screw, or try the above methods ( multigrips, longnose pliers, small flathead screwdriver, vicegrips)

Its worth having a set of security Torx bits, Ford used Torx bits throughout the cars. Seatbelts, steering wheel, etc.

I guess the good thing about these security torx bits is its harder for ppl to steal parts of the car, because they come unprepared. But its a hastle when the owner wants to change things.

Ive also got some 6" rears to install, how did you connect the speaker wire to the speakers terminals, did you use a soldering iron and solder?

I used spade connectors connected via some good quality wire. Solder them together and plug the male end into the wiring plug in the boot and the female end into the speakers.

If you plan on creating some serious vibration, tape it up so it is nice and secure as well.

Funny story: I was expermienting with adding a small touch of rice to my car and installed some LEDs in my speaker covers. Did a stupid thing and reconnected the speakers while the head unit was pumping. Accidentally touched the positive side of the speaker connection to the negative side of the LED's (which were earthed to the speaker, little did I know) and blew the head unit! Been driving around for almost a week with no sound! So now I have to decide: Do I upgrade my JVC head unit or do I buy an amp? *Gets out wallet*

I bought myself the 41 piece set (includes torx fittings), from Dick smith, which is in the link that Gubas posted up. I have been able to undo anything and everything now
