That'll learn me!

Last few weeks as i've been turning corners i've noticed the front steering/suspension feeling "loose" about halfway thru.
Today (38degree day) Decided I'd better get under and have a look as yesterday it was happening pretty much every corner.... I just need to know what the thingy is... from front sway bar, it goes horizontal than up towards the tyre, and thru this vertically is a piece of metal with a bush at either end... I did all this *%#!**%#!**%#!**%#!* in tafe just can't for the life of me remember what it is called? (it's moved really easily with fingers... tried tightening to no avail.. bushes *%#!**%#!**%#!**%#!*ed?)
Also found my trans is leaking somewhere from the rear (input seal?) And has coverered my cats and the Y piece in ATF.. mmmm.. leak isn't major, but how much would this cost to rectify if it got worse.
The thing learned was... 38degrees + car run for 25minutes with aircon = hot exhaust and trans pan. No shirt (just home from work) and trying to wriggle out = BURNT!
In short, name of thing at the end of the sway bar.. control arm?

swaybar link arm. It goes into the lower control arm.

Its a called a pin, not really an arm.

They are usually tightened when on the ground with the vehicle weight compressing the suspension (so you checked it with the wheels on the ground right?). The bushes arent really designed to be continually tightened once they were instaleld and set, if you have a lot of play they are probably worn and you need to replace them (they are usually called sway bar link bushes).
