Default Deep cycle batteries

wondering if these are good for stereos and car starting?
Will 40 amps an hour 12 volt deep cycle battery be enough?

The specification to look out for is Cold Cranking Amps. Optima batteries are popular, with the red top model around 800 CCA. Apparently the yellow top model is more suited to cars with big stereos.

all odessey batteries are deep cycle, i have a battery the size of 3 in my back yard, 200 amphours, sat there for 3 weeks on the concrete, then used it to jump my old mans car wen the battery died! started first go!

I have a Optima Yellow top.

Ran it flat many times and it still holds charge.

I use it for thar reason and for the audio.

Grr cant edit.

That odyssey one is tiny at only 3 inches thick!!

It looks like the yellow top D34 would be the best for running a stereo with the car off.

Does anyone know a good place to buy these that would be cheaper than autobarn?

theres a few different types of odessey batteries, the 3" thick ones arnt good but are pretty good for thier size, i wouldnt run em on a stereo setup, just run one with a big CCA eg 600-800 and run a capacitor aswell, have a solenoid in between the 2 batteries and run the trigger off the alternator so wen the car is running the 2 batteries will connect together, that way u dont flatten ur main battery if ur just sitting in a car park listening to music.

Damn that Odyssey looks cool! I imagine it would have a serious weight advantage over Optima. Rollin, what did you pay for yours?

Any of these type of batteries will have plenty of cranking amps to start the car (remember the standard battery is 460CCA or so), if you are looking at using it to run a stereo without the engine running, you need a lot of reserve capacity. And that is something that the "small" batteries don't have a lot of.

i dont know if this helps at all, but the standard battery for an eb 2 is:
cold cranking amperes: 400
reserve capacity : 95mins
Ampere Hour: 53
and the alternator is as follows:
70 amp (6cyl)
85amp(5litre v8)
or if you want a battery with more cold cranking amps, use a battery out of a new F250, they are 600 cold cranking amps!!!

Cold Cranking Amps is a rating used in the battery world to define a battery's ability to start an engine in cold temperatures. The rating is the number of amps a new, fully charged battery can deliver at 0° Farenheit for 30 seconds, while maintaining a voltage of at least 7.2 volts, for a 12 volt battery. The higher the CCA rating, the greater the starting power of the battery. Mine is rated at 550CCA which is not the best, but better than most i've seen in an i6

I have been researching the Odyssey 680 MJT and it seems a decent online price is A$225 from "www.modyourcar.com.au", or US$70 from a respected specialist Ebay US seller. It seems this is an automotive version of a motorcycle battery - its only weakness is in the amp hours department.

I'm awaiting clarification of the postage costs from the US. I would pay extra to buy from a local supplier, but not double the price or more... :(

It is Amps multiplied by hours - 53 Ah means the battery can put out 53 Amps for an hour, or 1 Amp for 53 hours.

I'm running 1 Exide Orbital marine dry cell and 2 Exide Orbital deep cycles dry cells... They're all around 770CCA but the marine battery is better for the stereo because it can hand out larger dosages of power for a reasonable amount of time, the deep cycles are better for smaller dosages of power but they do it for much longer... They're a tough battery, you'll do well with any of the major brands, optima, exide orbital, odyssey, etc
