Default Dash Lights Drama

G'day all,

My dash lights in the Series 1 wagon are not working.

I checked the fuses, both are ok. When I switch on the headlights, the odometer orange display dims, the aircon light works, but the lights on the nobs and gear selector etc are out.

Any ideas anyone?

Nope already tried that one. Even if the switch was down low, it would still give some light, not just the brightest!

Thanks for the reply though.

My dad has had the series 1 for a taxi till he got the $hits with it and got a series 3. At about every 60,000k's he would have to replace the globes in the dash and/or IC.

Try putting a fist to the dash or IC- sometimes that usually fixed the prob till the next bump.

Last time i had a globe out i did the old fist trick, work well for a while. But now my climate control lights dont work. The LCD lights work, the clock, but the 2 Globes for the buttons dont. Its ИИИИing me off. Bulbs are fine, fuses are fine, plugs are fine, WTF.

I might pull of the bezel and see if they are blown. Don't know how that would have happened all at once, but worth a look I guess.

Anyone have good instructions on the procedure for removing and refitting the round AU 1 bezel?

Also, the dash!

G'day fellas,

Here is the updated situation on the dash/instument lights.

I noticed yesterday morning that both my tail light globes were blown (when headlights on) and the high level brake light also. The left and right brake lights were ok though.

I bought two new globes and replaced them (the servo didn't have the high level brake light globe). I tested them and they worked fine.

Today, I went to Ford, got the high level brake light globe I needed and replaced it. When I got home, the brake lights worked, but the tail lights didn't.

I replaced the globes. Nothing. Then the brake lights also stopped working!

Ahhh, the fuses I thought, yep they were both blown. They weren't yesterday though.

What do you think? Apart from buying a few new 15amp fuses of course!

Any ideas anyone?

Sounds like you might have a short somewhere in the system.

Do you have a wiring diagram that you could work backwards from?

Here's another update!

Went to the servo, got some fuses.

Put them in, turned on the lights, ignition off, and my dash and instrument lights returned!

I turned the ignition on, same thing, brake lights all returned too!

I'll see how it goes tomorrow, the wife is taking the car across town. I simply hope it's an unusual one off anomaly and not an ongoing electrical gremlin!

We'll see!

If it happens again, try putting in a bigger fuse - so if its a 15 try a 20.

Do you have an aftermarket stereo?

I have a standard Futura CD contoller, did put in an Alpine 6 stacker but that was 3 years ago. Had no probs until recently.

If I went a bigger fuse wouldn't that potentially damage wiring or components or blow more bulbs?

In any case, all is going well to this point. The misses had the car today with no blown globes or fuses. Hope it's the last I see of the problem.
