Default Best Position for CAI

I'm thinking about adding a second CAI to the stock AU box (and doing a few other things such as K&N etc..)

Anyway, on the club site, it reckons just a little pipe behind the headlight is good, but what I i ran a pipe and picked up at the front of the bar (stock AU style bar) with nothing in the way of the mouth of the intake? Would this prove any better?

Whats your opinions?

BTW, the falcon section is really turning into majority BA postings so I thought i might get more response here.

Cut the front of the Airbox out, it will get more flow coming in from behind the headlight (if an XR), and from the airbox lid to the first elbow get rid of the "bottle neck" 2.5 pipe and make it all 3inch, and I spose any pipe leading into the airbox feeding it air would overall be better..
maybe even a pod instead of a panel?

i am thinking of drilling a hole in the flat part of the bottom of the air box and running a pipe under the stock bar in the wheel arch. we done this to my mates ef XR8 and am waiting for some spare time to do it to mine, i already got a hole in the front of the box to give it a better sound under load with the standard exhuast, but found when the engine is running and if the thermos kick in that hot air blows right in front of the hole. dont like much but sounds good for a stocker.

Not sure if i can do airbox mods ... any change in airflow without tuning in an EGAS motor could prove a little damaging.

For starters though ... change the snorkel to the Tickford one (from the 220kw XR8 motor) ... have also heard that you can mod the lower section of the airbox at the front and put a pipe in (adding another inlet pipe) and directing it down into the guard to to the front bar.

I will be doing the pipe between the airbox and throttle body though.

yep get the XR8 220 snorkel as mentioned above, I also was lucky to get my hands on the BAXR/GT Pod set up which connects to the snorkel and also has an Air inlet going right behind the twin headlights of my XR, work's great !

Yeah, i know all this about the tickford Snorkle, and i plan on doing it when i can buy one, but it still wouldn't get as good air flow as having a pipe on the front bar would it?

It's better to have a pipe to the front bar .... but the snorkel is an improvement over standard though.

Include another pipe as well as the snorkel and you will have to best of both worlds.

Ok, so now that im gonna be putting a pipe to my front bar, what problem will there be if any about driving in the rain and water going into the intake?

barely any water will make it up the pipe ... then it has to get through the filter as well ... very unlikely ... unless you drop the car in the drink ... or you drive through flooded areas a lot.

I had my pod setup in a previous car mounted low out the front (just behind mesh in the front bar) ... and I went through a fairly hefty puddle (lyign across the road during heavy rain) .... I stopped not long after to check everything out. I opened the pipe up neat my AFM halfway up the intake pipe ... it was dry.

I don't think you will have any probs.

How about one like this a cut down G&D BA one
Or give them a call as I am sure they are doing an AU one know

Quick side note: That photo brings two question to mind AU1XLS - you've converted to MAP sensor setup yeah (differnt ECU?)? And also whats that thing on you're power steering fluid return line just next to the resevoir there (looks a bit like a filter or somethin')?

i have completed my stage 1 of my intake mod, not cosmetically finished but has a bit more response and also sounds better. just one more thing i got to do before i paint it, is weld up a fake breather connection to it then will paint. supprisingly it fit under to bonnet with the help of a grinder....

i too have a tickford air intake and i have the pipe coming out of the bottom half of the air box. and of course a k&N. but make sure u paint the whole set up black because if u dont and the cops pull u over and look under your bonnet, that will be one of the first things they will see, it is hardly noticable when painted black
