Okay, I am tired of my car being a bloody slug. I need to get serious with diff gears, so I have a few questions I need answered before doing anything rash...
I want 3.9s. What will my shitter rev at 110km/h? Will my mid-top end be reduced? Will my top speed be reduced? I know against Commos for example at the moment, I pull away fairly easy past 100km/h, will I still have that advantage? Is $1000 enough budget for LSD and new gears? Thanks.

I would assume being an ED and whinging about it being sluggish, a 4sp auto would be the culprit ;).

I'll try and answer a few questions for ya they may not be entirely correct but someone can fix that for me I think your power would stay the same, but the top speed would be reduced, not only this but you tailshaft would be spinning 3.9 times for every full rotation of your wheels. In that case I'd recommend a tailshaft loop just for safety. From memory gears give you an advantage for your take-off once you get up and running you should still have that advantage over the Commos that you mentioned. As for your budget, I think you should be right with that providing you take the diff to the diff place and then put your diff back in once they fit your new internals. (Prices in Geelong are alot different to where you guys live). Hope this helps, anyone feel free to correct me where I'm wrong. |

niko: The EA 3 speed is really no different to the 4 speed. Just missing a gear.

Actually the 3 speed auto is quicker than the 4 speed (ive had both, damn 4 speed has a delay when you boot it) Luke, Before 3.9 diff, id be doing the following * Extractors * Get a certain friend at RPM engines to try to get you a Tickford style head * GET BETTER DOOR TRIMS AND SOME FRICKEN REAR BOLSTERS! May not make the car quicker but the interior will look beter * even go for a diff thats a little lower like 3:45, its cheaper and wont rev too crazy and wont need a loop for the tailshaft either

Luke 3.9's will be good $1000 will be fine and ur rpm at 110kays will be around 2200 or more but ur takeoff much better top end will remain but it will be pushed back i.e instead of pulling away at 100kays u might be pulling away at 70 kays
although are u willing to sacrifice speedo accuracy? if u leave it it will be fine but if you recalibrate the speedo ur shift points will **** up but ur planning on a manual neway yhe? im getting my 4.11's tomorrow and the speedo recalibrated with a 4.11 speedo gear should be all sweet |

i too also think the 3 speed was a bit quicker, esp off the mark.... and IMO Damo the 3 speed is very different to the 4sp other than a gear.....
3.9s will be excellent for take off, wont reduce top speed either unless you have a chiptorque or aftermarket computer as they are speed limited to 180 anyway.... $$1000 sounds enough if using all brand new stuff. ive heard pintara 3.9 ratios fit, but need to be shimmed correctly or sumthing. ive seen them goin for as little as $50.... |

They were doing a group buy on the calaisturbo forums for LSD centres and diff gears. They run the same diff as us dont they?
http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showth...0&page=1&pp=30 They want about $300 for the 3.91 gearsets and I think $415 for an LSD centre. Then you have to add fitting. Im not sure how that compares to other prices though. Woot I got my XR6 diff for $250!!

You can have my 3.27's for $50 This will give you small increase in aceleration.
Is there any reason you dont want to convert to manual? You should be able to do it for less than a grand. Just falcons wanted $750 last time I asked for a conversion kit minus the ECU.

Cheers guys. Hmmmm now you've put me in a further dilemma: T5? I kind of got over that idea because I only got that sweet BTR put in a couple of months ago... Maybe T5 and 3.7s teehee :P
Eh Dan, I forgot how much you paid for the 3.45 LSD (was it around $250?) coz that would be higher on my priority list if it was pretty cheap. But damn I would love a manual, I'm sure I'd hose a lot more Commos BTW, does anyone know approximately what the difference in times would be for going T5, opposed to 3.9s and an auto? ie. 0-100km/h and 1/4 mile.

well 3.9+auto and 3.08+5speed
9.3:1 effective 1st gear in auto 10.01:1 effective 1st gear in manual The manual will still get the jump unless you invest in a 2500stall

$250 for a 3.45 diff is very cheap - less than half the price I have been quoted anywhere else. You picked up a bargain there!
A stall convertor is like the clutch on an auto box. It slips when you take of so everything is smooth. A hi stall convertor slips longer to help the engine get the revs up into the power band before it grips. It will help against the manuals, but IMO a manual will still win in the hands of a good driver.

Yeah but my car is slow.
All manual cars and auto holdens beat the crap outta me off the line. Its depressing. But its funny cos they always think they are winning then whoosh and Im in front and pulling ahead! Stockstandard-Everyone is saying I got a bargain, I didnt even realise that they were cheap when I bought them.

Ever wonder why I reply to everything less than a minute after it is posted. The forums are always on in the background. The internet is faster here and the screen is better.
If they wanted me to work they would give me more to do.
