Smartlock can't start the car, it would have to be separate.

I've looked into this quite a bit and from what I have read it is a downright PITA. It has been done, but not in the most user friendly way.

Your best bet would be to ring an alarm installer and see if they know the tricks involved.

I only know one person who has done it, and he only frequents Fordmods.

Smartlock from memory requires the transponder to be in vicinity of a reader at the ignition lock.If you want to start it you may need to strap the transponder to the barrel.Otherwise it is unlikely to start.

I know someone that has done it. And the way Stingray has said it, is pretty much the only way to do it. Would decrease the security on the car though.

Ok people :P I have some interesting news on this

You cannot atm buy a remote start setup for a EB2/ED/EF/EL smartlock setup that doesnt cost the world. DEI (Direct Electronics) use to make a "BEM plug & play" alarm upgrade quite some time ago but this was way too unreliable.

Currently Directed electronics have come up with a way to do remote start on smartlock and are going to be trialing this on my own car using a Viper 5000 alarm (Gotta love volunteering on Training days :P).

Soon as I have the results of how it goes I will let people know.

Hi all, I was thinking the other day remote start, programmed up to the 'panic button' would be a cool mod. Lets face it a panic button aint gonna help a bit except scare a mate or 2 going to get something out the car I can only ponder if that would make it acceptable for smart lock and only require a differentiating in program or is it hard based circuitry that would require obviously a bypass? Interesting thought? any comments knowledgeable would be great for ford humanity, or shall i go to TAFE for 5 years, to save future ford battlers this holy grail to slay the manufactured ford failing beasts. I got 300km on fairmont ghia 2000, replaced the drivers actuator the other day (electric motor was tired), and all the other jobs, mechanics wont do properly without charging a bucket load peace, to the fossils in our fuel One day you might get burned
