Default Limpy homie mode

Hey everyone,

I was cruzin down the freeway @ 100km/h just under 2000rpm and suddenly there was a clunk which jolted the car and then kicked the auto transy back into 3rd @ 3000rpm and it would not go back to 4th. So i pulled over and checked over the usual, found nothing out of the ordinary and took off again then everything was fine after that. I also had the neutral switch on the transy replaced for new 1 month ago because it was changing from 4th to 3rd always on the freeway and that problem has gone since then.

I'm thinking maybe the culprit is a solinoid in the transy but my question is can a solinoid from the transy activate limp home mode?

Cheers.

MMmmmm what about the plugs on the side of the tranny. I have had to hit mine with contact cleaner a few times to avoid Limp Home Mode.

Das car does that sometimes I think, i can never really tell cause it's only ever done it in 80 zones, but it doesn't shift down a gear it just doesn't go up into fourth in the first place

From reading your original post, you mention you took off fine after that? If that is the case I am assuming you have 1,2,3 but no 4th? Thats not limp home mode that is no 4th gear.. A solenoid failing won't make a noise, but are you saying it is fine now (ie have 4th gear back?)

limp home mode will leave u in 3rd gear till you turn the car off. wont downsift or anything. sometimes this is due to low voltage to the tranny. chech to see that you battery has no "gunk" around the terminals

It seemed like it went into LHM tempararily, then i turned the ignition off on the side of the freeway, checked it out started it up and had 4th back. I just wanted to know what the cause of the LHM could be.

If you do a diagnostic test to the car it will tell you why it went into limp home mode.
