Does anyone know how many 1995 Ford Probes were sold in Australia?. Having recently purchased one I have noticed only one other on the roads around town. The Probe is a great car to drive and I cant understand why there are not more of them on the roads.

Sadly the probes never took off in Australia. Although they appear to be a great car, I think they were beaten by competition that offered more for less, at the time.
Aside from that, I hear it is basically a Mazda Mx6 with different panels. For many reasons I have often thought that it is an ideal car for young drivers, especially as the Aussie version is akin to the American GT version, with nice sporty styling, gadgets and an acceptable amount of power. That, and if you were interested in tuning them, there is a wealth of information on the internet..

We don't see too many of them around here any more, but they were notorious for distributor ( or as you call them "Dizzy") failures
A "Dizzy" will cost you about $1000 US now, more than most of them are worth! I do know one guy that bought one cheap and is in the process of cutting out the floor to convert it to a rear wheel drive to drag race with parts from a Mustang that was in a collision Way too much work for me but hey...everyone has to have a hobby |

If I remember from all the reports when it was released, the probe was too pricy back then, but now they seem to be at a reasonable price with some being as low as $8k.

engine was shared with the MX6 of the same period, and the higher spec 626/Telstars.

Very nice cars, Felicity sold hers a few months ago. Just not practical for a family. I put remote keyless entry in hers, since the Australian Probes (which were based on the US GT spec) didn't come with that as an option. The only thing I saw bad about them was the price of parts. I hope you don't need a new lead set any time soon!! If you do need parts, try Mazda first for compatible MX6 stuff, as they are bound to be cheaper.

putting a 13b in it would be a massive conversion since probes are FWD and the rotary engine was never offered in FWD configuration

Thanks everyone, I don't intend to change the Probe, it is my second middle age crisis car the last one was a Honda Intergra. A remote keyless entry sounds like a good idea, but as for turbos it has plenty of power for me.
