Opinions Wanted
Not long ago I purchased a 95 Fairmont with 197k on the clock. Now I can hear lifters going, and am considering the following: 1) for a little more grunt, replace Head with an Xr head from an EF or EL maybe AU. Where would the best place to find one of these? and will it be worth it with the orig ECU? 2) Buy my wrecked manual Xr6 from the auction, rip out what I want and flogg off the rest including what I pull off the fairmont as parts to cover the cost. I would be taking the wheels, motor / head, manual, diff, springs & shocks, and exhaust from the XR. The back half of the Xr is in good condition. 3) replace lifters as they go screwey Cheers Dan |

I'd throw the EL XR head on the EF. You'll never get your money back in parts. If the XR is wrecked, chances are the suspension is bent, the exhaust is ed too. Its a load of work pulling the motor out and you're essentially replacing it with the SAME THING as your motor with an XR head.
Unless the XR has <100,000kms, I'd be spending the money you have to buy the wreck on a new head & cam. Perhaps a manual conversion will present itself down the track...
