i am pretty sure the place that did mine used 18mm MDF as a spacer/template ... as they mounted my tweeter next to the driver in the door as well.
I only have one pics of it through the grille of the door ... not a pic with the door trim off though.

What I'm going to do with mine is mount the 6.5" midbass speaker in the door (got the spacer for it) and get some custom A Pillar covers made for the tweeter, mounted as low as possible on the cover, facing the driver and passenger.

6.5" splits with tweeters in the factory positions in the A pillars Just made up a 10mm spacer and used the origianl grilles as templates for the new ones which were covered in warm charcoal coloured vinyl- took a day and I reckon they look great- not that hard at all really.....

Blackers- depth of the spacer would depend entirely on the speakers you are using- I'm running DDDrives and the magnets aren't that deep- Focal and some other brands have some speakers with inverted magnets for shallow mounting if you are looking for some- I got away with a 10mm spacer but you may need to go thicker- once you have the door trim off, you'll see what you need to do but you can mount the panel to the door picking up off the original holes or even drill some new holes (that's what I did) and sound deaden it as much as you can, makes the world of difference- have a look in the "show us ya audio setup" thread and there's a good pic of one there..........

What i did for my tweeters is just buy the trim off ford. They were $15 each, so i just took of the old trim and screwed the tweeter into the a pillar, then put the new trim on. I'll try to get pics of all my stuff.

In regards to the wooffers, mine are 6.5 inch speakers. I had to make a bracket(see pics) that screwed into the back of the original speaker holes. There were two of them, one for the top two holes, one for the bottom two. Once that was done i then mounted the speakers of them. (See pics bellow)
In regards to the crossover boxes, the left one is mounted with double sided tape behind the trim panel attached to the dash, inside the doors. (open the door and look at the side of the dash) The right one is mounted just high and to the right off the head unit, behind the dash. This place is only accesable once the center console face is off. It's inline to the left of the instrument cluster but to the right of the center console face. |

I have 6.5" MDF spacers about 15mm thick. That's no problem. It was just the tweeters I was mainly concerned with.
Thanks superroo, greatly appreciated. Enough hijacking from me now.

No the part you get replaces the current a pillar trim. The replacement has the hole and grill for the tweeter already fitted

That's why i did mine the way i have. You can't tell that there are good(expensive) speakers in there unless you have a really really good look.

Yeah its the grouse,i was checking the order form from ford attached on previous page and i think it was dated 12/05 so since then theyve decided to stop selling the drivers side A-trim.The guy said id have to just get the tweeter cover and cut and fit it to the current one on my car.
