Default EA Turbos- No EngCert required?

Been pondering this for a while.

I have heard a bit about the old EAs that were turbocharged (maybe twin) produced by AIT or wasit AVO?

Either way, at the time they were factory-backed and had the Ford brochures and everything so i would imagine it would be similar to the Tickford/FPD relationship with the factory producing Falcs and the other company doing other work.

Now, seeing as Vicroads rule that a vehicle being replaced with an engine that that car came out of the factory with dosent require an engineers certificate, dose that mean that us EA turbo boys can get away without the cert?

I have heard YES, am interested in others opinions.

Technically yes.

BUT

This is all good provided you use the same setup that was made available in these cars.

Also check to see if it was a FACTOR fit or a DEALER fit as this will make a big difference.

You cant just go to Reg ur EA with a huge whoop *** turbs and hope to get it ok'd, if it was a factory fitted optionyou will need to provide any proof of this as they may not be aware of it. Be careful though as I said earlier it will need to be exactly as it was originally fitted, so if it didnt have a cooler then you cant have one either.

All this of course is just until you get it regd, hehe enjoy :hihi:

Hehe yea i somehow didnt think they would fall for my story about factory falcons with huge turbos and open wastegates as standard equipment lol.

I doubt they would have any way of knowing exactly what kind of turbo the original had as compared to say a TO4 that i would be running.

Hmmm, it would be very advantageous being able to advertise a Eseries turbo falcon with rego + RWC without being laughed at.

The problem is it will be up to you to prove what turbo it came with, not them.

An old sales brochure would be good for it you rekon?

I mean, i dont wanna have to call David Flint or whoever and have them tell Vicroads!

By teh way, i was thinking of the AIT Falcs, add the AVO Falcs to teh list too.

Have you posted some pics of it? How about some info on it, they are a pretty rare beast.

not a chance, they weren't factory produced so it was up to AVO or whoever to prove compliance.. just like it will be up to you to prove compliance on your setup.
The government can't make it too easy.
