Today at the workshop we had an old bloke come in (about 60 years old) and he claims to own, and have owned since new, an EA that was built along the same lines as the AIT, AVO etc turbo cars of the era. It has a blower, not centrifugal (i am assuming PD), and is apparently one of four built. It's manual, has pedders susp, is light blue, and has a bonnet bulge over where the whole inlet manifold sits... He wants to sell it for sub $6k, and apparently it is immaculate. The blower was reconditioned 6 months ago, and the motor not long before that. He said it was built (when the car was new) by a company called MAZPRO or something similar (not nizpro), but I'm not sure if they still exist.
Does anyone have any idea about these cars, or any more information? I'm going to go and have a look at the car later today, and take some pictures, I'll post them up later...

never heard of it, is it legal? :P
i've got an article on the Supercharged AM HO ED's and how there was a stage when they werent legal due to the emmisions stuff, maybe its along the lines of that? some place that did kits but never got them compliant?

Yes it is legal, I asked that first up haha. It does have a build plate but I have yet to see it, and has been registered + insured since new. The supercharger is a "sprintex" or of a similar design he thinks...

There was a 'factory EA Turbo' for sale on ebay recently but I don't remember it saying if it was 1 of 4 ever built. I saved the pics...sorry they're so small.

Just spoke to the guy on the phone. I'm going to look at it tomorrow now, it is an EA series 2. The car was apparently built similar to how tickford cars were built, in that ford commissioned mazpro to build the cars for them. The supercharger is definately a sprintex unit, however not one of the australian variant, it was the european (english?) variant. He says that the car was built with the intention to give the HSV cars some competition, he said either VN GRP A, or VP GTS, I honestly cant remember, but only 4 were built as there was no demand. The supercharger was claimed to give an extra 46-49% more power, and the cars commanded a ~$35,000 price tag...

i think the story holds some credibilty... the names you've thrown around sound familiar... i don't know if they fall into context with the EA.. but i've heard the names before...

I have a magazine somewhere that has a bit of info about MAZPRO, if I manage to find it I'll be sure to post it up.

Went and had a look at the car. It's very interesting. He hasnt owned the car since new, the owner of the car until 4 years ago was his brother who DID own it from new. The documentation has been lost (sceptical) however he has receipts for the supercharger reconditioning from barry fischer who valued the blower at $3500 alone. The car shows signs of sitting in the shed for the last four years, it's covered in spider-webs, it's dusty and messy, and needs alot of TLC...
Here's the pictures...

Car has genie extractors, pedders suspension, and what appears to be a 3" exhaust. I asked how much boost it was running, and he had no idea, claims it has been a family car. The boost gauge indicated around 8-9psi, and the car pulled very hard. The engine bay, as can be seen, is in pityful condition, and the interior is pretty much like most EA's out there. There is absolutely no rust in the car but the paint is not the best. and it has a small ding in the boot (20-cent piece sized). It's not worth the money he is asking ($5500) however as a project car I think it would be quite good. What should I offer him? I was thinking $3500 (the value of the blower).

Looks interesting, but that engine bay is absolutely filthy!
How are you going to go about checking the history of the car and do the ADR's listed on the plate comply with emmisions or are they for other stuff? Tried googling Mazpro and it came up with some brake & clutch place in Bayswater. |

Now that's interesting! The blower looks ugly, but would probably look pretty nice polished up. Offer him $3k Jared, can't hurt :P
