Default Spark plugs

Hi All
Would like to know people with jmm cams in do you use xr6 spark plugs. If so does it help?

I thaught that too...

But I do know the high performance ones from bosch are supposed to be realy good, livend up my old ED a little. Yet to try it in my new car but.

xr plugs have a 1.1mm gap, non xr have .8 or.9mm

um my normal spark plugs have a 1.1 mm gap,,so the xr plugs are normal plugs.

EB-ED XR's are one heat range colder.
I'm not sure about EF on.

have a look in the manual.

not sure about EA's but i kno for a fact that XR and std plugs are different. look in the bosch/ngk book

yeah XR6 plugs are different, I got some newies recently, they were like $6 each, can't remember what brand they were NGK I think.

I replaced the leads at teh same time which seemed slightly damaged. I have no idea why they are different, maybe because the design of the head in the XR's is the main differance in the motors. Car reved a fair bit smoother with the new plugs and leads, but I put that down to the old ones being overdue for replacement.

Took the plugs out today the plugs are rusty is this normal?

Pretty sure the only difference is the heat range.

General rule - colder plug => hotter engine and the reverse applies.

greyish/tan to white is usually correct heat range.

Soft, black, sooty but dry could be too cold a plug.

Plugs that are too hot can suffer from preignition damage. the porcelain can be porous looking and almost "sugary".

Best to hunt around and look at a few pics of the types of problems that show up in plugs. I have a brilliant auto book that shows them all but its in storage many miles away.
