Hi There..
I want to buy a particular brand and type of watch for myself, and was wondering if anyone here works in such an industry that they can help with a contact for a deal. I am in north queensland and there is not much in the way of decent stuff here. I am looking at an Omega Seamaster full Steel Chrono, , or a Raymond Weil Tango full steel, , or an Oris Mark Webber .. Anyone ? I can drive up to cairns and look there as in Townsville there is bugger all... thanks in advance AC/DC |

Most Omega dealers will normally give 25% discount as soon as you walk in the door.
I got 30% of my Seamaster was $4175 , paid $3000. This guy always has good stuff for sale. http://clockmaker.com.au/w/wfs1.html |

You get a 2 year warranty for Omega and Tag if purchased from a Authorised Agent. Also Omega offer a 3 year warranty on its Co-Axial movement watches.

There's a nice Breitling Chronomat Evolution I've had my eye on for a little while now. Maybe a fat man in a red suit might get me one for Xmas.

Have you considered something like a Vintage Rolex or something of that ilk? I'm talking about 1930's or 1940's? I saw them in the antique trade all the time and loved them. Buying from a reputable dealer you have very little chance of being ripped and you are instantly buying a collectible.
A quick look in a Carter's (which are generally 25% overpriced) show's: 1969 Breitling Cosmonaut Special with heaps of Gadgets -$2800. 1970's Breitling Navimeter Chrono - $1800 (NZ) 1958 Rolex Manual Wind - $1800 (NZ) 1960 Rolex Rolled Gold Oyster - $1800 1972 Tissot Manual Chrono (similar to Omega Moon Watch) - $1400 1975 Original Omega Speedmaster Mark II w/ box and Papers - $3000 I don't know how those prices stack up, if they're expensive or not but it's something to think about that. Sure, it mightn't have a warranty, then again, if a 40 year old watch still keeps near perfect time when you buy it, there's a fair chance you won't need warranty. Cheers, Lumpy

Yeah, I already have a Raymond Weil W1, and a Rado ( dunno model ) and about 5 of the full steel swatch ironys, ,
But I want a brand new omega, or longines... I have recieved a PM from a fellow member who might be able to help out. Thanks again guys ! and I dont think $2000 is a lot for a good watch. I once spent about $7000 on car stereo stuff to damage my hearing, , and I also spend about $30 000 on cigarettes before quitting..... oh and about $50 000 on beeers earlier on in life not to mention the $$$$ on dirt bikes to fall off and get hurt, , , and then the $8000 or so for an engagement, wedding and eternity ring for a certain person..! ! ! ! ! I know most watch retailers in Australia and you won't find any better watch retailers in Cairns or south in Mackay than in Townsville. Omega and Longines are out of the same factories and are nothing flash I can assure you. They often use Australia as a dumping ground for old models. You'd probably be better taking Lumpin Proletariat's advice and purchase a collectable. |

Is time really that important? Just curious as to what benefits a 3-4K watch has over a 2 or 3 hundred dollar watch?

just a thought for ya
in 1972 my dad bought a Rolex Sea Dweller Submariner for the equivalent of 2 weeks wages take a look on that website, an ordinary Submariner, not the higher spec Sea Dweller will sell for ~5k SECOND HAND...... what does that tell you about how the way of life has deteriorated? |

Omega's warranty is 2 years, IIRC. First port of call is always the dealer, but if it needs more serious repairs, they'll send it back to the distributor and you'll be waiting up to 3 weeks for it to come back with no courtesy watch either... lol. I had a problem with the strap release on mine which didn't spring back properly - took it back, they said it had to go away to be fixed and I said "no, you can fix that in the workshop. Off you go, I'll wait here..." 10 minutes later, and it was good as new. Out of those ones, I'd get the Omega, even though I'm biased. It's a classic design and less likely to date over time. Tough too - in several extremely scientific and authentic torture tests, my watch has come off better after encounters with walls (corners and the flat variety!), metal gate-posts, engine oil and several 1/2" drive sockets...
