Does Steve have a car?

Thought it may be time to start a fresh thread for my car.
As you may have read i've been having some bad luck with my car. Still don't quite know what the exact problem is, but i can foresee that it will be the first of many with my current setup. Therefore i've decided to ditch my current motor and sell the manual, and will instead be building a strong motor and box. My goal was ultimately to get a bigger charger and pump some serious boost into her, so rather then just shelling out for a replacement motor and end up killing both that and my gearbox, i'm going to set up the driveline properly first time (well second time actually :P). I have my origional 3.9 bottom end that i'm going to build up (alex, you had three years to pick it up, it's mine now :/), and i'm also converting it back to a 4speed which will be built up to handle the power. Was considering a C series but cost is an issue. I will be keeping the powerdyne for now, but ultimately this will be sold off in favour of a vortech or possibly a Paxton blower, but i wont be able to afford that for a while. Anyways, i will be keeping you all updated on how i'm going with the build. I know some of you were keen to see the car in the flesh, so i apologise for the delay, but either way the problem that i'm experiencing now was going to keep the car off the road for much the same time. I will have a manual kit up for sale shortly, so if anyone is interested drop me a PM (it wont be removed till after new years tho). Also, the items listed in my signature are also up for sale. I wont be putting up an ETA, as it really all depends on how quickly i can sell these items, so guys, buy it all quickly so that NWOLB can attend a meet this century :P PS, anybody got a spare EF/EL Auto pedal box they can donate? ;)

You'll have a lot of mixed responses on this, a lot of people saying go for it and a lot more saying DONT DO IT.
Sounds like you've got your mind pretty set tho, so good luck with whatever you do. Projects are never finished =P

you can only spend so much time trying to work out what something is before you bite the bullet.
atleast its not a step backwards

I wont be regretting it. Sure i'll swear and yell while i'm doing it, but as John stated, there is only so much time that i'm willing to work on a problem, and right now i believe that the best thing to do is start fresh. Doing everything properly now will prevent future incidents were i'll haveto do it again, and i garauntee i'll then regret NOT doing it. I have two paths i can follow, one involves a fesh start and the other is a quick fix. A fresh start means i do a bit more work now, and will have peice of mind in the future and a solid base to reach my goals. A quick fix is cheap in the short term, but has risk of future headaches, will haveto do a fresh start anyway to reach my goals later on and will ultimately cost me alot more in the long run.

As krys said you obviously are pretty set on what you wanna do, but atleast work out what the problem is first, you don't wanna sell someone a dodgy manual conversion. I've pulled out many a t5 and replaced many a clutch, and never experienced any kind of problems like you are having, it HAS to be something simple. Are you even 100% sure the noise is coming from the box.
But either way, stronger motor + gearbox = WIN! So good luck with it. |

i vote fix what is wrong and build a motor/box in the process, that way you can blow the **** up out of the current motor and when it dies your new one should be built!

auto is better for forced cars anyway, everytime you change gear in a manual you will lose boost cause you are taking your foot of accelerator, with auto it is just constant
