Just had a look at my mates 5 speed EA and it appears that there is a crack going 3/4 of the way around the area of the firewall where the clutch cable comes through, i hear this is quite a common problem and am wondering what the best method of fixing this is,
i have been thinking about pop riveting a 3mm thick plate over the area from the inside

pop riveting the plate might work, however it will be super strong if you can weld the crack up then weld the plate in instead...

I grinded off the sleve that come through into the engine bay and riverted a 3mm stainless plate on and have had no problem thus far.

I welded the crack up after it appeared, and it hasn't returned yet- even with the monster clutch I'm running these days.
I heard that there is a Ford part to repair the firewall when this problem occurs. Fiction? - John |

believe it or not, its fact tuffed lol
its basically a plate that you weld on the outside (engine bay side) of the firewall..... |
