I had a look through the technical documents, and found THIS.
But does anyone have any information on the wiring side of things? The guy that I'm doing it for is keeping all the original speakers, so i just need to know which wires go to where, and i'll be sweet. Also, if someone has a picture of the tool used to remove the radio that would be good too so i can bend something up out of a coat hanger or similar. Your help would be appreciated. Dale

just cut a coat hanger in 4.. so you can jab each rod into each of the 4 holes.. it pushes a tab outward that allows you to pull the unit forward..
then just go down supercheap and buy a nice little aerpro wiring harness its all listed on the thing

There are some errors in that doc as the series 1 features in some cases are different to the series 2 and 3, e.g. 6 dish in dash cd. What are to planning to do?

If you register here http://www.the12volt.com and then go here http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/vehicles.asp then put in the car details it should tell you what each wire is for
Cheers Luke

If you are just panning to swap the head unit for an aftermarket unit the easiest way is to take blackers10 advice and grab an "Aerpro Wiring Harnes" Part No: APP053.
Around $15 from Supercheap. If you want to know which wires go where, it will be something like this:- Yellow - 12v (from battery) Black - Earth Red - 12v Acc (from ign sw) Orange/white - Illumination Dark Blue/white - Amp remote Dark Blue - Antenna remote Light Blue - Mute Grey - Front Right speakers White - Front Left speakers Purple - Rear Right speakers Green - Rear Left speakers. These are the colours for my Sony head unit. Your head unit may vary a bit but you'll find all your info if you hunt around the net. |

Thanks that was great.
I do have 1 more question, will the volume controls on the steering wheel still work? And if not the guy wants them to be removed. Is it just as simple as unscrewing them from the back if they wont work. I suspect they wont, but i want to make sure

No they wont work but you can get a thing to make them work. Its pretty expensive just to have them working, bit of a money waster though IMO

Then you'll have a bit of a gap on the side where they were, no big deal really. As for the wires I guess they dont matter as they dont work anyway, probably could just tuck them in. I just left mine on, doesnt really matter that much

Ron, from what I understand, the thing you need is an adapter that makes the unit think the stereo controls on the wheel is the remote for the unit. Of course, if your unit doesn't have the remote control capability or option, then you can't do it.
The cost I was told about a month ago was $150 for the adaptor. I think I'm going to go without it, as much as I love the controls; $150 is a tad rich! Strathfield Car Radio and JB HI FI both had them. I bet Jaycar would too. The dash pocket from Ford was less than $20, and will need a dose of vinyl spray black, as they come in a grey colour. Hope that helps, GK
