Try on of these golden lines:

"Your probably not going to do much better"
"You're not getting any younger"
"I'm quite a catch you know"
"I have my problems, but look at the size of that diamond"

Just ask him/her. Set the gound rules early. Dont make too big deal over proposing, keep the expectations low.

Seriously, I hope it all goes well. Do the nice dinner thing with clean finger nails and all that. : = :

cheers.

Gold I tell ya, Gold!

I may be in a position to use one of these one day, particularly the "You're not getting any younger" as the GF is 6 years older than me.

How have you guys proposed? A mate of mine got engaged while doing the bridge climb. He wasnt even allowed to carry the ring up there in case he dropped it.

Hmm I somehow think that I wont get the desired result if I use one of these.

You forgot "Your body clock is ticking...."

Yes, I am married. I proposed on Christmas Day myself. Just do it when it suits you, and do it in a way which you like and you know she'll like.

Does she like a crowd, or does she like intimate moments?

If intimate, just a nice, quiet dinner. Keep it simple but make sure you cook her fave meal, play some sexy music (Aqua anybody? :P) and wear her lingerie. I am sure that will get her motor going.

Simple, ask her when it will be a surprise so she will remember it.

I was doing work late at home, then woke my wife at 3am and asked her to marry me, she said yes and couldn't get back to sleep , so she remembers it.

Having just been proposed to all I can suggest is that you know her well enough to know what she likes .... or I hope you do as your about to embark on a life experience.

My wonderful OH took me for a drive on my birthday, we stopped at "our little stop away from the kids" and he asked ...... No Im not giving anymore details than that :P

All the best in however you chose to ask .....

Muahaha I am such a romantic that I actually proposed two or three times.

First time: Came home absolutely farking plastered from the pub and after literally kicking the front door open (I thought it would be funny at the time) I stumbled into bed and then proceeded to tell my half-asleep girlfriend (now fiance) that although there were some pretty hot chicks at the pub, they weren't her and I didn't want them anyway because they were skanks. Then I said to her "Theoretically speaking, would you marry me if I asked you?". Needless to say she said "Let's talk about this in the morning" or something. Can't remember too much after that cause I fell asleep on top of her.

Second time: GF was overseas and I asked her over the phone. GF said "wait till I get back and we'll discuss it".

Third time: GF gets back and on her first day back she was hanging out for some Nandos. So off to Nandos we go and buy a Nandos chicken, bring it home and sat on our bed eating it. This is the moment I chose to strike, and BAM before you know it, we're getting married.

The End.

Well not really, I need to actually get married now .

way to go mate, i proposed to my missus last year at a very packed resturant in newcastle. as i am a chef and knew all the staff at the resturant, i got them to write it on the dessert plate in chocolate. was so frikin nervous that i couldn't get the ring out of my pocket when the plate came out and nearly took out the waitress in the process e
after a standing ovation from the rest of the patrons and a schooner of rum she said yes.
good luck mate you'll be right :

On the down side, if you don't come to that realisation until several years later, you may regret not taking that header off the cliff.

Nah, just yankin your chain. Good luck, enjoy the strip club on your bucks. ;)

First time I popped the question was in the back seat of my Ford. I hid the ring on the back parcel shelf. And it was in the car park of one of the eastern Suburbs beaches, Pretty romantic hey? (LOL) She said yes, but then she dumped me and married a security guard who was of the same religious persuasion as herself, bloody bretherens.

ours was more like a business deal......
we'd talked about it often,,,, lots of things to think about.. it's not a small thing.
we were at dinner on an island in Malaysia.. and i said "so, after all this discussion, will you marry me?" 2 years later, bought her the ring and then got married.
we're not romantics, she HATES me spending money on her, SHE chose the ring, and we're now happily married.
gotta think of it as a life commitment, don't want to do it twice, it's not a cheap event either.

best of luck.

There is another thread here with a few ideas.

I like this one, a bloke buys a TV commercial spot during his girlfriends favorite show.

My dad's definition of "engaged" is what the outside reads when you turn the little lock on the toilet door.

My missus was at home giving her car an oil change in the garage... I came home and pulled the ring out of my pocket and said "Look what I bought" (She knew it was coming)

Naturally she hugged me etc... and I got covered in engine oil :P
