Default Quick Question

i have an auto eb. i was in my street and wanted to see how my car went. anyway i put the 'power' switch on stalled it up a bit then let it go. to my surprise it got up to 80k's in first before it decided to change (flat out). then after it changed i slowed down straight away, not to be too dangerious.

i dont want a discussion that i should not have been doing it or what i just want to know if that is normal or is it holding the gear too much. i dont have a rev guage so i dont know what it was hitting.

matt.

The BTR trans do have a very tall first gear, but it will also depend on what diff gear ratio your car has...

Reading through my manual, the 1-2 gear change at 100% throttle happens at 66km/h. This is with the trans in "D" shifting at roughly 4000rpm
This is on a 5.0 with a 3.23 diff ratio.

If you have a standard 3.08 diff ratio, 70-80 km/h sounds about right for redline being held in first gear.

With power on our EB usually shifts 1st > 2nd at 80-90km/h, have to lift off slightly for it to shift though.
Held down in 1st it has wound out to 110km/h on the highway, wouldn't want to do it too often though.

110km/h in 1st gear in an EB?

I hit 110 in 1st once in my car when I had 3.27s. Mind you she bounced off the limiter at the time.

max i could get out of mine when it was auto with 3.08 diff was 84k's. that was ringing its neck.

i think i get around 45-50 out of first with 2.95 first and 4.11's (Manual).

But that's with a similar 1st gear ratio to a BTR and a 2.77 diff. Much more easily acheivable

{I could get my old auto to stay in first till i hit 140kmhr.. cos i moved the speedo needle..** Sarcasm...

Does it really matter wat speed the gearbox changes at??? I would usually be looking more closely at the tacho to get a indication of whether its normal or not as the speedo's in e-series can be quite a bit out.. i haven't seen a tacho that was out aside from one that a guy put the needle back in so it pointed to 2000rpm at idle.. bloody idiot..

Cheers,
Nik

Only change made was going from 14" to 15" wheels, rest is original.
Was a pretty steep grade I was traveling down at the time. Have only hit 110 once and wouldn't want to try again, sounded ready to blow up.
