I ordered what I was told would be MSD coil packs and MSD leads from Bursons. I got the coil packs fine but the leads they gave me were Eagle Eliminator series 8.0mm. Fancy looking things they are and even have meshy heat sheild things on the boots to protect them. My question is this, are these as good as the MSD items and should I keep them? They were $240 but I don't have a lot of time before I get the edit so I'm kind of caught between a rock and a hard place. So what do we think, keep the Eagle leads or get them to replace with MSD. just a note I don't recall the sales bloke confiming with Rocket that the leads were MSD but he did get asked to make sure they were for an AU XR8.

we use eagle and ICE leads for our LPG conversions and havent had a prob with them. keep the eagles, they're pretty much the best on the market.

Damn, $240 for Eagle eliminator, got my MSD 8.5MM leads today from XD357 and are excellent, I'd take them back and get proper MSD ones as I only paid $150 for them.
You did ask for MSD leads? Mate if you want I'll sell you mine and I'll order another set as I'm not in as much a hurry than you, can even have them waiting for you at G&D. : Mick

Well I spoke to Bursons and Rocket today. Rocket basically don't have a clue when it comes to these AU V8's. They said it would take them 3 months to get MSD leads from the US and that I'd have to supply them with a part number and they won't take the Eagle leads back from Bursons, so much for customer service. Bursons told me that as it was a special order they won't give my money back but they will give me a store credit even though it isn't exactly what I ordered, but I can understand that as it's more of Rockets fault. Oh well it looks like the Eagle leads will have to suffice, but I'm sure that they will be fine.
Mick thanks for the offer but since I can't get the cash back and I can't think of anything I'd use $240 on at bursons I'll leave the leads with you. Again thanks for the offer, it really is true AU owners really are better people lol.

Eagle, very average in my experience - QIL (Qld Ignition Leads) 9mm for $250, or Magnecore 8mm for $240 or 8.5mm for $330 (if you're keen). Have tested under significant load and the QIL 9 or Mag 8.5 are top of my list. From what I know MSD leads are good for a time but have a more average life, that said I have this info second hand so.....? Given your options I'd be inclined to have the Eagles replaced with the MSD leads.

Thanks Mick for the pics,I was curious to see what these looked like. Great price thats for sure.
Redxr347,I wouldn't worry about the Eagle leads, they have a good name in the Aftermarket industry,I have used them before I would again. For street use etc I couldn't see half of these other brands giving you any more performance off the lights anyway. Now if you were running the 1/4 heaps maybe fractions upon fractions may be of help for a great spark but I think heaps of this stuff is talked up far too much and if you were to run another XR with same mods I'm sure the only difference will be the Driver !

The MSD leads need to be made up to suit the application dont they? I.e. they dont come ready made to suit the AU V8 etc.

I still feel that ICE are the best leads, we use them in a majority of our LPG conversions (and we do specialise in the conversions) and as spark is critical in LPG applications, its only fair to assume they are far more superior then MSD. IMO you get what you pay for, $150 for MSD compared to $250 for ICE, bargain spark for bargain price. I use ICE 9mm pro leads with NGK plugs in my I6. and although i dont use it for the strip, i feel confident they wont let me down in any mods that i do in the future

This was taken from a post by jimt3te50 on here.
this gets worse or better depending on how you look at it. I thought I would check the resistance of the leads as a comparison for you guys as I have the top guns, the eagles and the MSD's from A1's- No 8 on the Eagles is 1922 ohms No 8 on the Top Guns was 2840 ohms No 8 on the MSD's was 145 ohms (yes 145, or about 7.5% of the eagles and 5% of the top guns) Maybe it's been as simple as that- you change something then rule it out when it can still well be the problem.......... that might help you make up your mind on leads anyway |

Oops, I meant 145 Ohms leads would be great for LPG.

The coil packs and Eagle leads are on. Idles and starts better than ever, so I'm happy. Now bring on the tune.
