Default do you think a moderator should close a thread because he is bored by the topic?

i have had a thread with a poll closed because a moderator was not inteested in the topic. The topic was in no way offensive and to the best of my knowledge was in breach of no rules it expanded on another poll that was somewhat limited and exclusionary that thread is still running despite being told that it too would suffer the same fate as mine : . the thread was only open for a few hours and received 36 votes in that short time so do you feel we should be allowed to discuss any topic related to our AU falcons providing it is not offensive or insulting? I have a feeling that this one will meet the same fate as my previous one but we will see if the moderator concerned ( no i will not name him ) has the courage to receive the feedback of the members who after all make up this forum. I cast the first vote for free speach up to you now

I'm sure the fact that he was not interested was probably just a misunderstanding, but the moderator does have a right to close threads that are stupid, like what colour undies you got on? style polls for example. Having not seen the thread, I can't commend, but I did vote on the poll based on the question in black and white. Should a moderator close a thread if he or she is (subjectually) bored by it? No. Should he or she close it if it is just crap and wasting time, space or resources? Yes, that's what moderators do. Moderate.

Edit: I checked back on the thread, and yes it was in a way wise to close it, because whilst it is never harmful to have a nice poll for fun and profit, there's always a bad egg who makes a comment that always sparks conflict, and it was best to close the thread before it went nuts. It's probably going to happen more than once, it's not life changing, just accept it and move on.

So what was the poll topic before I cast my opinion?

Sometimes a mod will close a thread because first it's pointless, second it could cause a possible WW3 senario or it's simply going over old ground where the search option should be used. Like andrewts said...moderators are here to moderate. They do a good job. Their firm but fair all round. I'm no angel around here and also get pulled up from time to time....but still their pretty reasonable and should be respected.

Cheers

I closed the thread because I found it of no benifit.. effectively it was a waste of space.
I havent closed the other thread as I've had issues connecting to the forums.

If you think you've been hard done by take it up with the admin.. do not even bother to try adn play the victim in public like this.. because believe me I have not made you anything like a victim that I could.
Thread closed.

Some salient points here for the thread starter:
  • This is not a democracy as you misguidedly seem to think
  • Casper has been doing fine work on these forums for a long time
  • Unless Casper goes insane and repeats the scotch tape/echidna/9v battery debacle, we will continue to support his decisions
  • Your original thread was basically worthless
  • This is not a democracy as you misguidedly seem to think

I look forward to hearing further from you on this matter.
